I can see some slight "Nomadic" undertones to the design -- especially the appearance of "wraparound" rear glass and the ribs that are formed into the sheetmetal that recall those that appeared on the Nomad's roofline.

It would be interesting to go back in time to see how folks perceptions of cars have changed over time. For example, the '57 Ford outsold the '57 Chevy, but 50 years later, everyone thinks of the '57 Chevy as the quintessential classic car. In fact, most folks I know who were around at the time thought the '57 Chevy was ugly when it first came out.
