2004-2006 Ford F-150

I want to buy a super crew with the 5.4L in the next few months. Just wondering if there is much difference between the 04's to the 06's as far as engine and power train go? Have you guy's seen any difference in power or fuel milage between the trucks in those years?

For some reason the 2004s tend to get better gas mileage. I know thumper used to get 16 MPG highway with 35" tires in his 2004, and my 2004 on stock tires averages 18.8 - 19.2 mpg highway @ 70mph (depending on elevation). Both trucks with 4x4 drivetrains.

15.5 mpg to be exact. However that really wouldn't determine what year vehicle I'd buy. Personally, I'd go for whatever I could afford that'd be the newest with the least amount of mileage. 2004s were problematic to say the least. However there are a few 2004 trucks out there that aren't. Personally, my 2004 was a complete piece of junk. It spent more time in the shop than on the road.

So I should stay away from the O4's then!?! What kind of issues did you have with yours? I'm hoping to stay under $18000 - $ 19000.00 for a 4x4 , I'm thinking it won't be much newer then an 05 or the odd 06 for that price.

if you pay 18000 for an 04 or 05 you are gettin absolutely screwed. You can still get an 06 for way lower too.

Everything on that damn truck broke at least once. I'm not exaggerating either. It was a big vibrator none the less that they could never fix.

8500 , Holy crap that sounds almost too good to be true. Was it a private deal or at a dealership.

Do all 04s get better mileage? My buddy has an 05, and I get better mileage, didn't know it was b/c of the year though.

Racerd, if you change your mind, and want an extended cab, let me know, I know of someone saleing one, and it sure is nice, and good priced.

What po1911 said. It's true the value of these trucks dramatically decreased. I think I was somewhere around 16-18K for truck last year and I just looked it up to be somewhere around 12K this year. Not much change in time and wear. I think it's the gas and the lack of demand for our trucks. I'm sure it'll plunge further. Seems like the dealerships are giving these away from all the commercials.

I would take my time and get a great deal. You have to realize you'll be spending a 100 bucks everytime you fill up. I fill up once a week. 400 bucks a month is like another car payment.

I still love my truck but I'm having my doubts now. At least I didn't have too many problems knock on wood.
