Is NASCAR gettin boring or is it just me?
After working a double shift Friday night, 16 hours, & attending an 8 hour FireArms class early Saturday morning. I finally got to relax Saturday night & watch the Chicagoland race. Long story short I woke up on the couch at 0430Hrs., & missed the race! (LOL). I wondered who won the race, so I went online & saw who won & said I'm glad I got some much needed sleep! I really think that the sport was much better in the 80's & 90's! I've been a fan since 79 & will continue to watch, however the sport is just gettin boring to me!..IMHO......
I haven't watched since 1986 when Bill Elliot won 11 races. After that, nascar sucks because they are so intent on keeping everyone equal. What is the point of the manufacturers cup if no manufacture can do anything to run away with the crown? Now all the cars have the same profile?? How stupid can it get. They need to rename nascar to IROC... that is pretty much all it is now. That and allowing toyota to race is just WRONG

I'd say they need to take the SC out of Nascars name as there are no more stock cars left. There's hardly anything left that you would find on a stock car. That was always the attraction of Nascar back in the day. You could actually buy something pretty close to what the guys were racing like a Talladega. Since all cars today have fuel injection, where are the fuel injected race cars? Where are the Triton engines? And the best question, what channel is it on this week? Nope, I quit year ago.
Guys like Alan Kulwicky, & Dave Allison were unfortunately taken away from the sport way too quickly! Erine "Swervin" Irvan, was fun to watch also! Dale Sr., made every race interesting too! Todays talent just doesn't do it for me like the drivers of that Era!.........Mark Martin is really the only person from that Era, who is really still competitive! I'll always root for him!..........

I agree with labnerd, nascar used to be a innovative force for the auto industry now their engines are stuck in the 70's no F.I. no O.H.C. where is the innovation oh yeah and all the cars have to fit into a template it is BS the only competition is with the drivers not the cars themselves.
I'll copy my rant from another board so i dont have to type it again.
You can't say...
... this season is actually entertaining.
The beginning of the season. Gibbs dominates. I got angered and frustrated because they obviously improved and got ahead on the COT, but there is plenty of season left, so we can still have something to look forward to.
A little further, other cars start mixing it up, toyota doesnt lead the entire race, they still win in the end, but think things still can change. What goes up must come down right?
Now, stewart looks like a lost sheep and hamlin has fallen out of the picture now. Kyle busch may be a good driver, but driving alone cant give you 7 wins. They obviously have done something in a gray area with their cars. Will nascar let them keep doing what theyre doing? or will they even the playing field. Sure, obviously there are people who are enjoying this and think it's exciting, there would be with any situation, but i cannot be the only person who isnt even looking forward to watching the races anymore. The only thing keeping me in this is because i love rooting for bowyer n the hendrick guys. I don't think the ratio of new fans interested because of the kyle busch domination to fans annoyed, bored, and uninterested is even.
And dont think this is being negative in anyway about bowyer. I am still supporting bowyer obviously, as i would in any situation. Unfortunately we didn't hear 1 thing about him tonight, and now we're 13th in points. I hope we can sneak back into the top 12. Who knows it could be another situation like last year, but i would rather see us win.
Back when gordon and evernham did the T-Rex car, nascar confiscated the car n never let it happen again. They're letting kyle busch keep the car this time.
He will start the chase with the biggest point lead in the entire series, even at the point where it's supposed to be an even start. Unless guys get the ***** to start pushing Kyle Busch around, he will keep walking all over everyone and will easily get the Championship, as i expect him to.
Sorry for the rant.
/rant off.

I used to work for Bill Elliott.
Nascar is always boring for those that have watched for a while. With each batch of new drivers, the old ones are always missed. As far as "stock" goes, they haven't been even remotely stock in more than 40 years. The COT's are basically the same for everyone, which makes the teams and the driver work that much harder. They all use the same tranny's, and they all use Ford 9" rear ends.
Pretty much the only engine parts that come from the manufacturer (GM, Ford, Dodge) are the block and the heads, and both are bare, and not even remotely stock (the GM block, for example, doesn't even have a place to mount an oil filter). The displacement can be no less than 350 ci, and no more than 358 ci. Virtually everything else is aftermarket, usually designed exclusively for Nascar. For example, Chip Gannasi Racing's suppliers include Mike Bordeaux Dyno cams, Comp cams, Trend and Smith Brothers pushrods, Del West and Xceldyne valves, Jesel belt drives, T&D rockers, Lentz connecting rods, Sonny Bryant cranks, Johnson oil pumps, Clevite engine bearings, JE pistons, Fel-Pro gaskets, and Bosch plugs and alternators. Every engine for every team uses a Holley 4150 carb.
All teams have specs their common parts must comply to, regardless of where they come from. For example, pistons can't weigh less than 400 grams, con rods 525 grams, and wrist pins 75 grams. The max compression ratio is 12.0:1, and the max exhaust diameter is 3.5", except for the tips. They have an unusual spec because they are flattened out. I don't remember what it is for sure, but something like no more than 11" wide each, or 22" combined.
Different teams have different shops who do their machining. For example, Joe Gibbs Racing sent their GM heads to CFE Racing Products in Michigan, and Ganassi has Ernie Elliott in Georgia do all their machine work.
The average lifespan of the parts are different, and engines are torn down after every race, so an engine used in one race may not have all the same parts in it as it did in an earlier race. Blocks are usually good for 10-15 races, heads 5-6 races, cranks 5 races, cams, lifters and pushrods 3-4 races, connecting rods and rocker arms 2 races, and pistons, valves and valve springs are replaced after every race. Carbs are rebuilt after every race, and there is no average lifespan for them.
Toyota is in a slightly different situation, and my knowledge there is limited. Toyota itself hasn't made a carbureted pushrod V8 in a long time, so TRD in California started from scratch, and designed a new engine that was based on what they felt were the best features of the other manufacturers engines, and then added their own tweaks. It works well in the Craftsman Truck series, but the Cup engine is an even newer design, with a slightly different block and heads. Only Bill Davis' Triad Corp. and TRD in California are building the engines, which are all supposed to remain identical as far as hardware is concerned, and then sell them to the other teams.
Speaking of Toyota, the only thing on them that has anything to do with Toyota in Japan are the names. Everything else is just as American as any other car racing in Nascar.
One of my best friends works for Michael Waltrip Racing, and drives the hauler for David Reutimann. Everytime they come to Fontana, he sets me up with garage/pit passes, and I hang out with the team for the weekend. I've taken some really good pics of the engine they use, and it's impressive. They are about halfway down this page if anyone is interested.

i agree jb. gray area for sure. look at the number 20 in the nationwide series. like bowyer said, a momkey could drive that car
this COT doesnt seem to produce alot of side by side racing. there have been alot of boring races this year. it seems like whoever gets out front and has the clean air checks out on the field and wins pretty easily. not much side by side action at all. look at infineon. there was only like 2 lead changes under green. yawn.....
plus i was so frustrated last night with the number of commercials. it seems to be stupid. 5 laps of racing followed by 3 minutes of commercials. i actually flipped over and watched a little of the indy car series race instead last night.
next up is getting to here rusty wallace ramble on about his stupid "draft tracker" 8 times a race on ESPN. at least Dale Jarrett will be commentating now though. hes pretty cool.
i tell you what though that wallace kid from the gieco commercials is gonna be a great nascar driver when he gets old enough.

x2! and I dont see any excitement in the future of the sport. Well, I shouldnt even call it a sport. Its more like WWF or whatever they call it now adays than it is like football. It should be called DFE not Nascar. Driving Fast Entertainment.
