Re-filling butane lighter?

I bought a pretty nice 3-flame butane "torch" cigar lighter. Works great, real slick. Problem is I bought some cheapo 'Liberty' butane for the refil. I made sure the lighter was empty by letting all the fuel / air out, let it sit a few min, shook the butane, and tried to fill it (lighter down) but the butane just went in and came misting/spraying back out. WTF?

This is the first time I tried to refill it and I'm kinda mad. Do I need a better quality bottle / nozzle?

Why would it somewhat go into the lighter than escape? Am I doing it wrong?

Thanks :o

Do not fill all at once. Try making several shorter bursts to fill. I had a butane pipe light years ago and that worked as I remember. Also you might need an adapter for proper fit for your lighter. Some butane bottles used to have those.

See, I tried a short 3-4 second burst but same thing. I think I f-ed it up anyways - I screwed the flame adjustment all the way in, then out and now it's loose as a goose. I may just go get a new one Problem is, I wonder if I'll run into this problem with the new one

If it is a "pretty nice" lighter, check for the manufacturer and see if they have a website with instructions on how to fill.

you should be lighting cigars with a wooden match anyway.

cheapo type shrader valve. Take it back and trade it for another.
I was collecting torches until people started acusing me of doing crack.
But most of the cool looking torches and lighters have sory valves
