Another cell phone thread (Best data phones)

I did a search before making this thread, and the vast number of cell phone threads existing are getting kind of old.

Long story short; Rogers here in Canada is the first wireless company to offer the Iphone, and it's being offered as of 9am today. I can't get it, at least not for a reasonable price on my existing account. I'll be able to get it for a reasonable price eventually, but I don't want to wait (need internet when I'm up north vacationing, or I get the shakes). I can get just about any other phone for a deal. I like the Iphone for it's browser especially.

Is there another phone that is comparable to the Iphone? I'm not keen on the Nokia N95, so I'll save someone from possibly suggesting that phone. I like a full qwerty keyboard.

Hell pick any smartphone and its got to be better than the iPhone. Granted this second shot at being a smartphone is much better, it still falls short of being a useful business communications device.

It's simple - If you want to look cool and only use the phone to browse the web and find stuff, get the iPhone I'm sure you'll be happy.

The N95 was OK, but I'd shy away from that one. The GPS was weak (but software was bad-***), no QWERTY, buggy, way to thick.

I'm a Blackberry guy myself. I'm waiting for the new Bold next month. I've been testing 3G smartphones for awhile, ended up with a HTC Touch Cruise to tie me over until AT&T gets a 3G BB (I adored my BB Pearl for years, but needed to go to 3G w/ HSDPA).

I was looking at the Bold as well, but the other day I played with a Blackberry Pearl my buddy has, I didn't like what I saw, especially while surfing f150online. It was a PIA to navigate this site to be blunt.

Yes, this phone will be for my own personal enjoyment, and looking cool while I'm sitting in the middle of nowhere on some uninhabited 50 by 50foot island in the middle of some northern lake. It won't be used for business related crap in the least.
I want easy and pleasant web browsing and when I check my e-mails I want to be able to click on any links that are part of that e-mail, just like on my laptop or desktop.

I had a feeling there wasn't anything as good as the iPhone, at least not for what I want it for.

I guess I'll wait a lil while and get it then. Seems that Apple owns the smartphone segment for ease and pleasure of surfing type phones.

Whoa killer. First, there are much better web browsers for the Blackberry. The one RIM ships does stink, its meant for WAP sites and renders HTML poorly.

The Pearl and Bold are not in the same league.

Ease of use and iPhone don't even belong in the same sentance. No MMS, No copy & paste, one button only, no IM clients, no voice activated anything... another "Form over function" product by Apple.

He's very well spoken, eh?

I'll have to take another serious look at the Bold, perhaps. It will be released by Rogers soon. The vid I saw comparing it to the iPhone gave the iPhone the thumbs up for the browser, and I agree from what I could see in that vid.

In fact, here's the vid:

Not to hijack a thread, but does anyone know how the Curve is in general as a Blackberry device? I just ordered one today for work, I am hoping it does alright. I got the unlimited data plan as well (unlimited internet and email for $29.99/mo.

That's no highjack. The Curve was recommended to me by a rep from my service provider as well. I'd be interested to hear what people think of it. That same rep uses a Curve.

I think I'll do a youtube search now.

Edit: here's a vid:

The iphoneblog.com liked the iPhone better?!!! That's crazy!!!

Seriously... the browser is cool but in reality is you won't use it as much as you think you will... and that's when the rest of the phone comes into play and that's where the iPhone falls flat on its face.

Oh, and despite Apple's claim of no "watered down" Internet... Hey Mr. Jobs, WTF is Java support and Flash?!!!! Heeelllllllllooooooooooooooooo... the iPhone is a fancier version of the SAME WATERED DOWN INTERNET ON EVERY FREAKING SMARTPHONE OUT THERE!!! My HTC allows me to see flash, including flash video... why can't the iPhone? Oh yeah, Adobe hates Apple...

The Curve is a very nice BB, but at this stage of the game I'd hold out for the Bold... similar form factor but kicks its ****... there is a reason AT&T is giving them away for free right now.

If you are not an AT&T customer, you will have to wait longer for the Bold depending who your carrier is.

Anywho... the Curve gets my seal of approval. Very nice phone.

Verizon. I got the phone for $139 with a 2 year renewal. Not too bad. The last 2 years have flown by on this contract and hopefully the next two will as well. I was really hoping to get away from Verizon and their crazy *** bills but I guess I can hack it another couple years. The nice thing is I got unlimited data (internet and email) for only $29.99/mo. So now my phone bill is $180 for 4 lines.

Right now I can get the Curve for $199. The data plan is $30 for 6 gigs, and that offer ends in August. That's a very good deal for Canada.
