I bought a new bow!

Well I gave my two year old bow to my son last weekend because he is starting to get into archery and he was shooting that bow very well. I will buy him a better one when I see that he sticks with it. So old dad went and bought a new bow. I shot all of the bows down at the pro shop including the DXT, Drenalin, and the Drenalin LD and I liked the Switchback XT better than any of them. So I walked out with a 2008 Switchback XT. In my opinion this is still the nicest bow Mathews has on the market today.

So here's my new baby.

Wow, that's pretty fancy. I wouldn't know where to begin shooting something like that. We did archery in our PE class in highschool but the bows we used were simple one string jobs.

Nice bow! Can't get much better than a mathews either. I hope I can get back into archery. I lost my blue competition martin and PSE in a fire overseas. I never had the time to get back into practice or had a place to shoot. Nothing else quite a fun or relaxing out there to me.

I agree, that's is probably the best bow on the market. It's what I've been shooting for a few seasons now. Very forgiving, fast, quiet, comfortable... the list goes on. Congrats!!!

Thanks guys. I love this bow! My son and I went down to the archery pro shop today and spent a little time on the range and then after that we went head to head in the techno hunt. I don't know if any of you have ever done the techno hunt but it is really awesome. It's about the best practice you can get next to really shooting a deer. We both had a blast and decided that every Saturday from now on will be spent doing that.

I believe that the Switchback XT is the best bow Mathews has put out yet.

Not to hijack thread but I've been thinking about getting into archery and I have the PSE factory here in Tucson with a factory store with really decent looking prices since I have a bunch of the B&A group here what is a decent entry level bow and is PSE a good brand

BTW the last bow I ever shot was a wood laminate 45 lb recurve and that was probably 10 or 15 years ago and I dont want to go spend $1000 on a bow and then not really get into it

There are a lot of good bows out there and you don't have to spend $1200 to get one. PSE makes a great bow and so do many others. The PSE Nova is a good starter bow and can be picked up pretty cheap. I started my son out of a Fred Bear TRX 32 and it's a great shooting bow.You can expect to spend around $250-500 to get setup decently with some good arrows. My favorite arrows are the PSE Radial X-weave Predators. They run around $120 for a dozen. What I would do is find an archery shop with a range and go shoot all 5the different bows in your price range. The bow that is right for you will pick, you won't pick it. It is very critical that you get the proper draw length so make sure you have the archery shop measure you for the draw length first. Once you find out you enjoy and plan to stick with it then you can sink big $$ into a top of the line bow. You could always look on Ebay for a good used one too but make sure that you know what draw length and poundage you need to be shooting.

Edit:

Keep in mind that shorter bows tend to be less forgiving and can be harder to shoot accurately for a new archer. I would recommend you look for something 32" or longer (preferably longer 33" to 37") with a brace height at a minimum of 7". A qualified archer shop will assist you in finding a good starter bow for you.
