I am from Pittsburgh, moved a year ago (tear in eye!) Monaca is certainly not a very big place, but you arent all that far from da 'burgh which is a good thing!

Here is some quick advice for you.

1. Stay the HELL away from Aliquippa, unless you want shot at.
2. Buy copious amount of black and gold Steelers apparel, like or not, you are now part of the Steeler nation, embrace it, or the locals will be unhappy.
3. Learn to drink the most horrid beer on earth: Iron City, again, blending in is a must!
4. Get used to hearing the worst accent in the world! I will try and decipher some terms for you:
- Dahntahn = Downtown
- Warsh = wash
- 'Nat = and that
5. Cold and snow will be old hat to you being from CT.

Id say you are maybe 30-45 minutes to the city. There is a TON to do there! Honestly, I wouldnt know where to start, let me know your interests and I will point you in the right direction.

I am assuming you are going to PSU there? You are going to be a good 4-5 hours from the main campus, but seeing a PSU game is a pretty intense experience as well.

Take in a Pirates game, yeah they suck, but the stadium is awesome.
Pittsburgh is an amazing city, I miss home more than anything in the world.

There isnt an awful lot to do in good ole Beaver County, so try and find a little bar that you and your college buddies can call home.

Any other questions you have ask away!

Good luck with the move and get ready for football season!

Pgh_medic- I'm actually going to CCBC to become an air traffic controller. I used to be a big football fan of the packers, but ever since farve retired i haven't really watched, but i'll make sure i won't wear anything expect for steelers lol. Well i love to off road if there are any places, expect if i break something i'll be sol. I love to fly airplanes, but the ccbc has there own airport. So how far is monaca from where you live?

Hey man,

Well Monaca is VERY far from where I live, I call Virginia home now. But I grew up in the north hills of Pittsburgh, just outside of the city, I moved down here a year ago.

ATC eh? Very cool. I have a good friend that went through that, got a job in Salt Lake City at one of the major "centers" and decided he didnt like it and moved back to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh gets its grip on you and it can be hard to leave.

I had no idea CCBC had an ATC program, thats cool. If you want to make some cash while in school, maybe look at doing some part time work as a 911 dispatcher. It takes a smart, quick minded and organized person to do both jobs. Most 911 centers will train you, thats what my buddy did before he decided ATC wasnt for him, then he came back to 911 dispatching.

Lemme know if you have any other questions. I am no help with off roading out there. Beaver county has their share of woods and farms, finding a spot to go shouldnt be too hard.

Pgh is a truck down.

You'll like Western PA; most people are truck people. Pgh is a truck town.

The biggest export of Pgh is people. Everyone posting seems to have left, and I have too. I moved out to the Philly area - and nobody out here has trucks. And those that do ruin them with Phillies & Eagles bumper stickers.

I grew up in Mars, PA. South Butler County. Also get used to "Sawside"- The South Side of Town, "Jumbo"- Bologna, "Slippy"- Slippery, "Giant Iggle"- Giant Eagle, "The Stillers"- Steelers, and most importantly.... you now live in a "Hoss" or house. Iron City isnt that bad.... well....If you want a place to off-road some of the gamelands are wicked after a rain.

I worked a farm in Evans City for a short while when I was in high school. I deer hunted Marburgers (sp?) dairy farm a few times for deer as well.

Small world!

Iron City IS that bad! <-- picture this guy vomiting, ha ha.

Watch the game lands, if there is a sign saying no motorized vehicles the game commission will be out looking, and the dont mess around!
