Cable provided telephone.
Then you don't have VOIP, you have phone service provided by the cable company using the existing Bellsouth lines to your house. This does not require electricity. Comcast is VOIP, it uses the CABLE line, not the phone line, back to the office where it's put into the PSTN. Vonage works the same way except they don't necessarily use a cable line, they piggyback on your existing high speed Internet service whatever it may be. They both require electricity to run the equipment. My sister has ***, it works like yours. I dunno what Cable One here uses, but I don't want to find out, they suck. I use AT&T for my phone and DSL.
