Why?
Why?
Why is it that a Coke (Coca-Cola) from a fountain, tastes better than Coke in a bottle or can?
Has anyone else noticed this, or- is it just me?
The fountain drinks (Coke & Sprite) taste a little sweeter, goes down a little smoother...

Most fountain drinks are composed of a premade syrup that when dispensed, mixes with the carbonated water. Bottled and canned soda, is already premixed. So, often times the combination that comes from the fountain is more potent than the premixed liquid found in a can or bottle.
You ever grabbed a fountain drink that tastes like carbonated water? That's because the syrup that mixes in the fountain drink has been used up and needs to be replenished.

all i could think of when i was reading this thread is "they have water fountains with coke in em down there?"
then it came to me what a fountain is at a food joint. I dunno theyre all good. I prefer pepsi tho
.
btw places that have fountains and dont allow free refills are pieces of ****. It costs them pennies to fill a cup with 3/4 ice and coke at a place like wendys. thats why i like all the burger kings around me leave it out so people can just go and fill it up themselves.

That's because they use real cane sugar (or they used to)....not that high fructose corn syrup crap. Plus drinking a Coke in a glass bottle just rocks anyway.
I dont want to go into detail but my lady is a scientist for Pepsi. She is responsible for taking diff ingredients and coming up with new drinks. She has two drinks for Pepsi on the market now (Life Water and AquaFina Live). I cant explain it but she told me that these companies go to extreme measures with the shape of bottles, tops, etc. b/c of certain ingredients the product may contain. I feel the same way you feel. Take Snapple fruit punch for example. The plastic bottle is sweeter than glass bottle or the can. Maybe I can get her on here and explain it to a T.
1 other thing, I haven't had Coca-Cola in a long time simply b/c she works at Pepsi. I'm not sure but I think they can get into trouble for drinking it, lol

As a former restaurant manager, this is very true. Places that do not calibrate/clean the fountain properly have poor tasting product. The taste also, as a previous poster said, has to do with the mixture of the syrup and the CO2 water at the moment of dispensing. Fresher is better, it is as simple as that. Also, it is very important for the cold plate to be covered with ice or properly refrigerated in order for the product to taste right and have the right amount of carbonation.
(Can you tell I spent alot of time talking to the Coke guy at work?
)
BTW, fountain orange Fanta was my fave, but now I have started drinking Diet Coke, and any regular soda makes my teeth feel like they are burning!
