First deployment
O.k. guys, as you might of guessed from the name, I'm in the navy. In the submarine community at that. Scored shore duty right out of boot camp, now I'm at sub school and just got orders to my first boat. I report in a month and go on my first deployment, Which brings me to my question. I have to stow my baby for 3 months at a time. What are the best things I can do to make sure she is there ready to run when I get back? They give us a simple version of what to do but I'm sure with all of you guys I will get a more educated answer. Like I said it will sit for 3 months or so at a time and most likely not be touched, Georgia weather. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.
I am going out to sea and hiding for a while... Submarines man silent service. Not here I am and this is where I am going. Just kidding, I don't know where, just that I am.
And thank you.
And thank you.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Three months isn't a long time. I deployed and left my Mustang in storage for a year. The place where we stored our vehicles started them up once a week and moved them around a lot to prevent flat spots on the tires. Even if your truck isn't going to be operated for the entire time your gone it shouldn't develop any issues. Clean it up real good put some fuel Stabil in it and it should be fine.
3 months isn't alot for a truck to sit but what i do for my 57 fairlane( when it was my grandfathers) we would put it up on jack stands, cover the car, put a full tank of gas in it so it wont get any moisture in there, spray the motor down with wd40, put a rag in the exhaust and intake so no critters get into there kiss her good bye for the winter and leave. Im sure there is more u can do but that all i can think of right now.
Do a full detail on it, change the oil and filter, air up the tires, put some StaBil in the gas tank and fill it up. Try to park it where it will get the least amount of sun. Get some cardboard sun shades for inside the windshield on top of the dash. 3 months is nothing.

I've never stored a vehicle so I can't be of much help. I just wanted to say...Georgia...submarine duty...My son has been in the Navy for 9 years, he's a submariner on shore duty in Hawaii (actually he's in Iraq right now) but it looks like they're headed to Georgia this winter! Small world!
I was an ET1 (SS) (nuke type) on the SSN 723 USS Oklahoma City. Stationed out of Norfolk, was in from 2000-2006. For the shorter times out at sea most people would just leave the vehicles in the parking lot on base. Not a big deal, put a shade in the windshield.
If you leave it in the parking lot, don't put a cover on it. It may sound strange, but its too easy to lift the cover and break a window, rob you, then just pull the cover down. Base security won't notice.
Norfolk had its own long term parking, it cost about $100 for a 6 month deployment if I remember correctly. They start your vehicle once a week, I think they moved it once a month, and there were packages available to have them detail it, etc. Not sure about Kings Bay though.
Good luck.
