17 Year Locust (Cicada)

Ummmmm....no thanks! Thanks though for giving me goosebumps (not the good kind either).
Lmao same thing happen to me, it stopped flapping and just sat there looking at me with those freaky eyes. I jumped out of the car at a red light and the stupid thing went under the drivers seat. The light turned green and I jumped back in the car and pulled into a Duncun Donuts and left the door open and slapped the seat from the passengers side until it flew out 15 minutes later. People must of thought I was nuts.
I'll take your word for it. People in the NE were cooking these up and getting sick last I heard. I though they were ducks quacking up a storm in the pond on campus...but the noise was going from the trees nearer to the student parking lot. Yay.
I hate those more than anything. I was driving once with the windows down doing about 45 and one perfectly bounced off my mirror and into my lap flapping its wings and making all sorts of noises. Damn near lost control of the truck as I screamed like a 13 yr old girl and started flailing my arms in various directions trying to get it out.
your killing me man.I was in Baltimore in 03 when they came out there. It was pretty nuts. LOUD AS HELL.
Kinda cool though.
Ya they sound completely different than normal locusts. More like a cartoon spaceship landing or something
When I was a kid and we lived in nebraska, we watched one flying along and a cicada wasp flew up and tackled the cicada.. really cool to watch nature. I liked the noise they make. Look pretty cool too. None here in washington..
I saw the regular ones when we lived in Texas, I have no idea what the 17 year ones are like but from the page you posted LT, it sounds like they eat the crap out of every plant you have! I'm soooo glad we don't have them here, I mean between the deer, the moles, the rabbits and the other creepy crawlies my plants suffer enough!
