They actually taste pretty good; so, if you grab it and bite it's head off, they will stop flapping around pretty quickly. They taste a lot like almonds and Miracle Whip.

I'll take your word for it. People in the NE were cooking these up and getting sick last I heard. I though they were ducks quacking up a storm in the pond on campus...but the noise was going from the trees nearer to the student parking lot. Yay.

your killing me man.

I was in Baltimore in 03 when they came out there. It was pretty nuts. LOUD AS HELL.

Kinda cool though.

Ya they sound completely different than normal locusts. More like a cartoon spaceship landing or something

We just finished having them in Kentucky. They only stay around 2-3 weeks. Once the females lay their eggs they die and the males soon follow.

We're supposed to get them here in NC, but I haven't noticed them yet. Loudest bugs I've ever heard, but they do kind of drown out the old lady....so I guess they aren't totally useless.

When I was a kid and we lived in nebraska, we watched one flying along and a cicada wasp flew up and tackled the cicada.. really cool to watch nature. I liked the noise they make. Look pretty cool too. None here in washington..

I saw the regular ones when we lived in Texas, I have no idea what the 17 year ones are like but from the page you posted LT, it sounds like they eat the crap out of every plant you have! I'm soooo glad we don't have them here, I mean between the deer, the moles, the rabbits and the other creepy crawlies my plants suffer enough!
