Question about buying a car from private party

Im looking to buy a car from a private party but they just recently bought it 2 weeks ago from a used car dealer so he doesnt have the title yet it is still being transfered. Is there anyway I could still buy the car from him right now? Or do I have to wait for the title to go through? I called the dealer he bought it from and they clarified that the title is still being transfered.

I don't have an answer, buy if you're paying a pretty penny for it I'd play on the safe side and wait until the title goes through. Would they be willing to wait? If it's in the process it can't be that much longer.

its a good deal so I want to do it as quick as possible so someone else doesnt ****** it. i could give him a deposit to hold it until the title does through but I would rather just buy it as soon as I can

Never buy a car from private party with out seeing a title and varifying the VIN. I had a friend do that and he got F'd out of $19k. took the vehicle to MVD and the confiscated it because it was stolen. Yeah some people keep their titles in their car.

My mom works with a lot of title work at a bank. My uncle recently did something like this gave a down payment then ended up getting screwed out of it. It may be a good deal but if your going to give them some money upfront you should give them whatever your not going to kill yourself out of loosing. Because people these days you never know. They could still screw you.

no paper no buyee I mean you can do what you want but general rule of thumb is until you have the paper you do not own it a bill of sale means nothing and unless this is a close family friend I would not chance it, only give as much of a deposit as you are willing to loose

another thing to remember is if they financed the vehicle it will have a lien on the title and you will have to have the finance co. release it to you at the same time. just some stuff to look at

I know this is irrevelant to your question, but why would they buy a vehicle and then turn around and dump it after 2 weeks? Something seems fishy.

Go to your county clerks office with the seller and they should be able to write up a notarized bill of sale form for you and the seller to sign. They should also be able to check with your state and see the status of the title. If your state allows it they should then be able to issue a temporary tag until the title arrives. Maybe.

Agreed. And even if there isn't anything going on, that doesn't even make any sense to me...

Never buy in a hurry. To many chances for mistakes.
Good deals come and go there are billions of cars out there.
In arkansas it is illegal for an individual to sell a car without clear title

Find out how much he paid for it from the used car dealer and offer him $1,000 less. Also, if you get the VIN and ask a cop to run it they usually will.

Good to see you back around here Dave.
