Of interest to pilots

We are getting hammered by rain here! It is predicted that Saylorville reservoir will not be able to hold the water back and Morningstar airport will go under water as well as part of Des Moines. I just got back from Morningstar field north of Des Moines. When I was approaching the field I saw my Dad's Bonanza in the air and knew my Dad's buddy was able to get the plane off the field. My Dad is not current as he has not passed his bi-annual flight check. (He is 84 and an x B-17 co-pilot). The field was pretty soggy, but the west side of the field is higher. A Cherokee 180 tried to take off but hit an orange cone around a landing light with the nose wheel and veered across the runway and into the edge of a farm field. (Kind of ground looped it) The pilot was fine, but the plane was stuck in the mud. As I climbed up on the wing I heard the radios. He must have pulled the mixture to kill the engine. I turned off the ignition switch and had to ask a pilot what switches to find to kill the mags. It's been years since I've been around planes, but remembered something. I got my tow strap, and pulled him out of the mud with my Supercrew after cutting the orange cone off the nose gear. The nose wheel strut seemed to be damaged and the fiberglass fairing is cracked so he put the plane back in the hanger to hope for the best. I pulled two Bonanza's down the taxiway as there was about 6" of water. The planes are now tied down outside at Ankeny and we are all praying that we do not get high winds and the rain stops! We have had enough rain. 20 minutes after the last plane landed at the Ankeny airport we got hit with 2 more inches of rain. My weekend started with a call from my daughter Friday @ 6:15 A.M. Water was up to her third basement step. I bought a pump, 100' of hose. Got the basement pumped out, replaced a sump pump, removed carpet, paneling, etc. I guess we will see what tomorrow brings. If I was smart enough to post pics. I could show you what a V tail Bonanza looks like up close in my rear view mirror!

Cudo's to you for the help you gave those guys. I don't mind giving my plane a shower now and then but certainly not a bath like they got.

Dang sounds like you guys are having it rough down there. To post pictures go to a site like http://www.imageshack.us and upload them. Then use the direct link it gives you and put it inside img takes. So it would look like this
[img]Direct Link Here[/img]

Make sure the pictures are not huge as forum mods don't like people posting really large pictures. If they are just post the direct link without the image tags.

One of my mom's co-workers owns a Bonanza. But it is not the V tail just normal. Its a very nice plane. My dad used to own a Piper Cherokee too but he no longer has a plane.
