I know this sounds rediculous and I do not really believe we should have limited speed cars. I just think that the speeding ticket laws are retarded and if it were so dangerous to go over the speed limit then why do they make cars that go over the limit? Makes no sense.

Two words: exigent circumstances. There are countless examples of why a person SHOULD speed, getting your wife to the hospital to have a baby, a friend having a heart attack, trying to get away from some insane idiot out to hurt you etc. etc. and so on and so on. Limiting all cars would just cause so many more problems.

Yeah, five or six Mexican's were in, and hanging out of a big orange Cadillac Deville at about 3 AM out on I-10 or I-20 (I forget). We were near where they come together in Texas, about 100 - 150 miles east of El Paso. I think what saved us, is the fact that they were driving fast. Fast enough for us to see in, but too fast for them to stop quickly. If they'd been doing 35 - 45 MPH, instead of 55 - 65 MPH, I might not be here to type this today because robberies, car jackings and killings was rampant in the early 1990's.

Anyhoo, they saw my wife and I out walking the dog on the service road. They passed us and obviously saw what they thought would be an easy score (married couple, sid eof the road ner a gas station, 3 AM, no witneses). So they slammed on their brakes, and whipped the car around. My wife was like, "Grab the dog!". It was a big and old Caddy, so they were probably 200 - 300 feet from us, by the time they came to a stop. They had to make a 3-point turn, and by the time they completed it, we were back in the car.

They turned around and headed for us.

I didn't have anything, no gun, no sling shot, nothing. The toughest thing I had on me was a fist, and an Ice Cube's Death Certificate CD. So, considering 5 - 6 potential assailants, versus me, my wife, and a 10 week old puppy, the decision was clear. "Let's go."

We hopped in that Accord, and took off. They were right behind us for a minute as we zipped down the service (frontage) road. My wife was like, "Go-go-go!" Normally, the Accord was quicker, but we had it packed to the gills. Soon, we came up on an entrance ramp, and we got back on the interstate and gained some running room. I said, "This m***********r has 140 on the dash, that Cadillac can't run that fast- let's see what she'll do."

But, by the time we got to 110 MPH, they already fell back, and turned around. In retrospect, they didn't shoot at us, so maybe they were unarmed.

I stayed over 100 for a while before falling back to the speed limit.

I don't know what they were coming at us for, but 5 - 6 guys wouldn't just turn around to come see how we were doing at 3 AM, back in 1994. They were coming to rob us, and their wouldn't have been anything I could have done about it.

I need to buy a gun for special occasions like that. But, if they had guns, I'd have still lost. Sometimes, it's better to just haul ***, if the opportunity to haul *** presents itself.

if your car only went 70, wouldn't you still have been speeding in the 65 zone at night?

Yes but you would have to set the cars speed to the maximum allowed speed. Or even have sensors along the road that tell the car what the maximum allowed speed is on the road you are on and force the car to stay at that speed.

Couldn't agree more. My fiancee and I were on HWY 10 north of Minneapolis MN last weekend at midnight coming back from the late Twins vs Yankees game. The highway was empty except for us and a KIA with 2 white teenage men and 2 asian teenage men. We were going the speed limit (55) in my truck and they FLEW past us at over 100 which I initally was suprised to see a KIA moving that fast.

They slammed on the breaks once they got ahead of us and the two asians in the back seats leaned out the windows with bats and chains and slowed down for us to catch up. There were no exits so we were hosed and stopping was definitely not an option.

I floored it in my truck with is luckily tuned with an AF1 and SIDO exhaust and goes up to 145 MPH. I was at 125 by the time I got with 15 yards of them, pulled a quick move to sucker them over to one side of the highway and then shot for the hole created on the other side. One of them was outstretched just trying to hit us with the chain. The other must have gotten scared by all the noise my truck had suddenly made when I accelerated or the fact because I carried so much speed up to them. Either way he had climbed back in. I flew past them and didn't slow down until their headlights were a small dot. Which at 135 MPH, didn't take long.

That is why I'm happy cars and trucks can go over the speed limit.

Thats when a nice pistol would have come in handy. I think my truck shuts down at around 100. Not sure though since I never had it that fast.
