I'd feel real iffy just putting in some aftermarket autozone special.

My dad always told me to do it the right way, or don't do it at all - in this case I think autozone is not the right way.

Is the switch locked up right now, or is it just starting to act up?

If you can still turn the switch you can have it out in 10 minutes. Go ahead and do it now before you are stuck somewhere and the key won't turn.

Mine locked up the other day lucky for me I was at home. A locksmith friend of mine came and fixed it for me. But then a week later my wife called me and said the keys just fell out while driving. So I went to ford and got a new cylinder and replaced it myself with factory parts. It was not hard at all.

You do not have to touch the PATS system, just the lock cylinder comes out as an assembly.

The kit from Ford comes with instructions for keying it to your key. A caliper was handy for measuring the key to find the correct waffers.

I don't have the reciept anymore, but the cylinder was not over $100.00.

I just was browsing the forum mentioned earlier in this post and found this http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...ition+cylinder
It looks like for under $100.00 you can have factory parts and a new key. I should have done more research myself.

dealer prices vary greatly, there is no set price the 2 dealerships in my area are wallet rapers, and I'm sorry I really don't like dealing with some one on the INTERNET that wants me to send them a check no way no how dealer #1 told me 197.95 and dealer #2 said 157.50 but I will HAVE to take it to a locksmith to get it keyed wich tells me it does not come with the pins to rekey it dealers vary greatly and I dont have much love for "factory" parts anyway it was the "factory" parts that failed anyway.

ps I only have 1 pats key at the moment A.Z.new cyl comes with 2 and locksmith will only charge me 45$ to program key
