I do the same thing in rental cars, I make sure i get the extra insurance though. So when i total the one they gave me they can bring me another to burn the tires off.

My motto is "Drive it like you stole it!!" And I do... no matter how much gas costs.

I drive my F150 like a grandpa, usually a few miles per hour below the speed limit...it drives my wife nuts Plus it saves on gas.

At work in the patrol car/on my motorcycle, I drive very conservatively as well...until the lights and siren come on, then it's ***** to the wall - yet maintaining total control.

I drive 200 to 400 miles a day for my job. No accidents, no speeding tickets or any tickets as a mater of fact. Gasoline cost me $75 to $90 a day. BUT...this is in a 2004 Dodge van that the company bought and I get a gas card. So I feel no pain at the local 7-11 in the mornings fillin up.

Now my truck is a different story. I baby that thing cause gasoline ain't cheap. But I do get a respectable 16.9 and I am also teaching the Wife how to drive "conservatively". She can do it and is learning fast. She drives 38 miles round trip to work.

In my truck I drive real respectable like. I drive faster on the freeway as the truck is faster in a straight line then my car.

My car on the other hand I usually drive it like I stole it. I have a 2002 Protege 5 with an aftermarket rear sway bar and 18's with 35 series rubber. The car handles very well in the turns but doesn't have the most power in a straight line like the truck. Plus it's fun to drive a manual once in a while. My girlfriend drives the car most of the time.

I drive like I have somewhere to be. When it rains here (which is rarely), I never seem to get traction from stoplights

When I get in a rental car, that thing is bound to see more air time than the V-22 Osprey. I figure its a strange car that I'm not too sure of its abilities. So I figure out its limitations, just in case an emergency arises and I have to push it to the limit.

As far as my vehicles, I'm a good driver. Safe and conservative, but aggressive when need be. I got my first ticket in 6 years this last weekend, 82 in a 75. I did everything right, rolled down the window, hands on the steering wheel, was very polite, etc. Somehow I still managed to get a ticket on Memorial Day weekend, when I have veterans plates on my car. Apparently he wasn't much of a fan of the Navy.

I drive conservatively but not pokey. I try to blend in with everyone else. I will run a consistent 5 mph over the limit, seldom more, seldom less - unless the limit is ridiculously low and everyone else is murdering it (example - Chicago area tollways with a 55 limit and everyone runs 70). I use cruise control whenever it's safe and possible. I get pissed off at the morons on the Interstate that can't maintain a steady speed. Left lane cruisers **** me off too. Keep right unless passing or getting ready to make a left turn.

I try to blend in with everyone else
That is the absolute BEST way to avoid both tickets and accidents.
