Best Headers for 2004 Mustang GT
has anything been done to it?
reason I ask is Roush doesnt change out the stock headers on the stage 3's theres enough flow what it still doesnt hinder performance up to there stock 380 tune.
I have known a few ppl that changed out to LT's and no performance gain, but was a PITA to install. On mine I went with a set of JBA shorties and a Hi-Flo HPipe, i had a xpipe on but it was too raspy.

I will be getting a BBK CAI and i have replaced the stock mufflers with Dynomax Bullets. I will also be getting a Xcal2 tune. Kooks offers three different sizes of header pipes. The smallest is for stock vehicles, the second is for vehicles mildly built with some bolt-ons, and the third size, the biggest, is for motors making more than 500 HP or something like that. I am thiking the second one for me because of the CAI, tune and exhaust modifications. Mine comes stock with an H pipe.
The site I looked at them was marylandspeed.com at 900+ for them I wouldnt.
the product info states "This header is great for a a stock car, or one with mild bolt on's. With a proper tune at a dyno shop these headers are good for 15-30HP depending on the vehicle and year."
a "tune" at a dyno shop will give you that without the headers.
I dont think you need these with the mods you have or even planning I have heard the Bullets on others cars and I think they sound good, if you want to wake then up a little more, get a Hi-Flo H ( 2 Cats ) vs the stock H with (4 cats )
A BBK CAI wont require a tune, this is more of a dressup mod since you will still be using the stock MAF/TB/Plenum so the amount of air going into the engine hasnt changed
A reputable dyno shop will usually sell you the tuner in conjunction with thier tune/service.( approx 500-600.00 ) I wouldn't use any canned tuned
I know your thread was "Best Headers" right now your Best Headers are your stockers.
You can take a Steigemeier Ported Eaton M90 with polished TB/Plenum and 85mm, @8psi of boost on top of the stock 4.6, conservitive tune push 380+ hp out of it and stock headers flow fine.
IMO the best bang for your buck right now would be a set of gears. the stockers are 3:27's. some will say if you have a auto vs stick go with 4:11 or 3:73's , I say split the difference and go with 3:90's ( a very nice gear ) while you wont have any HP gain, it will "feel" like you do , it will be quicker to accellerate, couple this with the Hi-Flo and you will be very pleased plus save alot of green ( which you can use for gas
) as your mileage with the gears will go down slightly.

You'll definitely want a custom dyno tune when adding long tubes, not a plug and play tune. If you're planning on doing any form of forced induction someday I'd definitely recommend long tubes as well.
As mentioned, they are a major PITA to install but sound amazing with a nice exhaust system.

Couldn't use them if you wanted to ... There are a select few vehicles that turbos and long tubes will work but that's it. I think I'm going to do a turbo on my car eventually. It'd be cool, I think.
go with roush's advice.
I have kooks long tube headers on my lightning, but I'm running a 6# lower and have up to 15 pounds of boost. the stockers are good untill there is a major air flow increase.
for the sound I like Bassanie's.

I am hoping to start off with headers, CAI, and tune and then build up after college and get underdrive pulleys, gears, and a possible supercharge. Im not sure because i am working toward a motorcycle. I am looking at headers mainly for sound. I will be looking for gears shortly after.
