My friend had a bad experience at Best Buy
I wouldnt take this thread a reason to never shop there. They often have great deals and have been great to me.
Best Buy still owes me $15 from a bluetooth headset rebate and 7 HD movies of rebates. Though the HD movies won't do much good anymore. I use credit cards everywhere now. They cant really do much to screw you on a card purchase.
The way I see it, having a clause like that should be illegal UNLESS it is a special order where it had to be delivered specifically to the store.
General merchandise should not be allowed to have some sort of "restocking fee"...
If CC and BB do not want their merchandise back, they should institute a "No Return" policy.
That is like stealing people's money, but wholeheartedly.
I know business' have a little more rights than consumers, but some of them get away with blue-bloody murder.

notice what carries the restocking fees... electronics.. especially portable ones. keeps you from buying the gps, using it on your vacation for a week, then returning it, or from buying a tv the week of the super bowl, then returning it on tuesday. these policies didn't used to exist, but now they do to protect the store from dishonest customers.
most of the time they will waive the restocking fee if you take the reurn as store credit, instead of cash.
not sure about your best buy, but the one by me has stickers on all the computer stuff mentioning the restocking fee.
also, it is always a good idea to fully understand a store's policies prior to making a large purchase.

I just bought the TomTom xls yesterday, and they slapped 15% restocking fee stickers all over the box. And I dont think that they can just throw it back on the shelf. I think they have to offer it at a discount. I could be wrong though.
I do know that I've seen deals on stuff that people have taken home, and returned shorty after due to change of heart.
I just left BB not to long ago as well, picked up the Rambo dvd set. Time to watch some bullets fly.

CC does not however have a restocking fee on TV's even during super bowl. Only computers, monitors, printers and GPS.
Like I stated before this topic could get lengthy, but I choose not to go there.
Ok....not to sound like a ****, BUT oh well
here it goes anyway:
For starters, you don't HAVe to shop at Best Buy. No one forces you to stop there. So, for Best Buy to have ANY policy they see fit seems 100% fine in my book. If their policy is that absurd then their business will suffer, if not, it will be fine.
Obviously, it isn't that ludacris because BB is doing quite well.
Beyond that, and more to my point...the OP is trying to somehow blame BB for this, when in reality it is YOUR fault for failing to research the product properly. why should Best buy have to take a hit on the merchandise because you can't do your research?
Like someone else mentioned they have MASSIVE postings up in the store of their return policies...YOU are the one spending YOUR money, therefor it is YOUR responsibility to make sure you know how it is being spent.
You said it was not enough that they posted it on the reciept AND in the store? My God, what next? Do we need to force EVERY single customer to be shown a short video of policies before they can buy stuff? What more do you want?
I'm so sick of people failing to take responsibility for things, it's always someone else' fault, never your own....
bottom line, BB did NOTHING wrong. I think 15% is very fair...who wants to buy an opened package? No one, so they will almost certainly have to put it on clearance AND waste their employees' time checking it out and re-shelving it, AND putting it back into the system.
15% = fair IMO....but hey, I'm just a realistic, logical approach, take some responsibility for my own actions kind of guy...who cares what I think?

If the 15% restocking fee was so outrageous, the OP could have kept the one he bought and learned to live with it, since he chose it in the first place.
i bought a gps at best buy and found it at a lower price a week later. i went into one best buy and told them i wanted to return it for that reason and they layed the 15% rule on me. they asked if it worked, i said yes. they asked if it did everything it was supposed to and i said yes, but that got me thinking. i went to another best buy on the way to work and told them it didnt do what the salesman told me it would do with saying street names. they refunded the money in full.

What other businesses offer a post purchase price match? Do you expect that on everything you buy?
Basically, they have the 15% restock rule to prevent people from borrowing stuff for free. There are lots of people (like you?) who would do that if they could get away with it. BTW, what business are you in? Can I go to a competitor with a worse location and make your company match their price?
