Everyone was so aggressive, it was unbelievable. For two hours, I could not catch any cards. When I did catch an ace king, I would bet in late position, and someone would go all in. That was my big mistake. Should have called. I was in late position, and the guy probably just thought that I was trying to steal from the button. You only get 3000k in chips. If a couple of stupid moves are made, its all but over.

I did see about thirty pros. Kinda cool. Met Greg Raymer, the 05 WSOP champ. He looked like a tourist with his socks and sandals Daniel Negraneau was knocked out before I was.... Not much of a consolation prize. I had NO clue how hard the event was going to be. Anywho...Saving for next year

At least you had a good time. I could live with saying I beat Negreanu.

I'm well versed in poker theory and practice. I would love to hear a very detailed report of your experience.

BTW (not to knock your play, but to those who don't play), last-longer than Negreanu isn't a terrific feat. He is an all-or-nothing player. 36 offsuit looks like AA to him. He knows how to play, no doubt, but he seems a bit reckless in my opinion.

I would love to hear about the hand where you had AK from late and someone from earlier shoved in on you... Was he in the blinds? Was he a mid-limper? Did he raise from mid?

Inquiring minds want to know

I was on the button, but a few hands earlier, my KJs had just lost about 1200 of my 3000 stack. I should have pushed in then, I was one to the nut flush, and the straight. Had position, not the sack. So, Ok, I am on the button, have AK and make a 500 raise to the 100-200 blinds. The guy under the gun raises all in. I fold. Should have called, and let the poker gods sort it out. Now that it is over, I figure the all in thought I was stealing from the button.

I thought I was a poker player until I played in the WSOP... As to Negranea, my buddy that I stayed with (plays for a living)...has lost a few thousand to him. He has an uncanny ability to what you are playing. BUT, he does make bad reads, and anyone that wants to play Negraneau is welcome to go heads up with him at the Wynn. Steve Wynn puts up the cool million that Negranea plays with.

Well, with hindsight being 20/20...

I personally would've shoved with the AK on the button. I'm assuming the guy under the gun limped. Betting 500 into a 500 pot with only 1300 behind, you are either all-in anyway or you're gonna fold. (I'm sure you know this already. I'm arm-chair-quarterbacking)

edit:

AK on button, short-stacked. Under the gun limps. He either has AA, KK, some other pair, suited connector, or a suited A. He has somewhere around 60:1 against (actually less than that since you have an A and a K) that he actually has the AA or KK, you are flipping against any other pair and dominating everything else. Gotta shove it all in.

:end edit

Actually, now that I'm armed with some details... I'm more interested in the KJs hand that got you in trouble to begin with.

As for Negreanu. I would LOVE to play him heads up (with someone else's money). I'm fairly certain he wouldn't be interested in playing for a few thousand of my own money.

Sounds like fun, though, win or lose. I may have to pony up and get my butt over there next year and give it a shot. Any ESPN cameras around while you were playing?

Shines, don't get me wrong. I wasn't criticizing, I was critiquing I've made WAY more bad plays than good ones. With a bracelet to my right and cameras over my shoulder... I probably would have just folded my way right out of the money.

I congratulate you on having the stones (err... stone) to go play!

Next time we get a home game going, want me to give you a holler?

:edit
Thought you were in Lubbock... You're still welcome to come play, though.
