Tornado hits close to home

Yesterday a Tornado hits a just NE of my place

So far a 2 year old boy is dead......It is amazing what a tornado can do in less then a minute but take years to clean up and rebuild. We are already under a a slight risk for severe weather again on Friday.

Glad you are safe! Parkersburg, Iowa got nailed yesterday. Last night my Davis Weather instrument recorded 55 MPH straight line winds which are minor compared to a tornado.

Around here, the sirens have been going off just as often for the real thing as they do for the weekly test. Nothing has hit inside the city limits, but there's been a lot of damage in the rural areas and small towns. Picher, OK is only about 20 miles from here and it almost got wiped off the map. I've lost some tree branches (already weakened by last winter's ice storms) in the thunderstorms. Power was out for 2 hours Saturday.

37 years young. Lived in Texas all my life. I have seen two. Only one was scary... the one that formed over my house.

In the summer it seems like there is a tornado warning at least 5 times a month around here. I used to not take them seriously, but there seems to be a lot more of them actually touch down than there used to be.

Thanks for the concern guys, over the last few years we have been really been under the gun so to speak for serve weather. 3 years ago this summer we had 80mph straight line winds come through taking down about every other tree in the neighborhood, including my grandmothers place were it took all 7 of them.(50-60 foot, pine and oak) which landed on the neighbors house. No power for a week and a half....talk about $300.00+ of spoiled meat in the freezer but that was the least of our concerns at the time....I know that I would take winter other this stuff any day.

My daughter lives just north of Main street in Coon Rapids. She called and said they came through with no damage. I sure feel bad for the people that lost their child.
