Not quite starving but give it a few weeks!!!! Pretty sad when they run ads on t.v. about hunger and bad economy. For example, a lady in her kitchen is slowly opening a pull tab can, the further she goes, the roof of the house does the same, so down goes the food. If they want to raise the roof on prices on everything, don't you think we should get paid more to compensate? Too easy, I know, but companies whine about profit margins, blue collar people's margin is almost nothing now, like drilling for blood out of a stone.

 

I work to keep from starving, if I want to get real fat I'd lay on my *** all day and get food stamp's. Come down to New Orleans and see first hand what I'm talking about, whole big Chocolate City full of 'em!

 

They at least need to require unannounced drug testing. That would take care of a bunch of people.

 

I think about half the people who get assistance are as described above. However some people are in a bad situation and trying to pull themselves out of it. People do lose their jobs or get struck by some disaster that wipes them out financially. Some people also have a real disability. I don't mind paying my share to help those that truly need it. The others need to get off their lazy asses and work!

 

Yep, because all people who cant afford food are druggies. Right?

 

I remember when I was like 12 or 13 and my dad lost his job and was having a hard time finding one. He actually broke down and went to sign up for food stamps. The lady ask him for the TOTAL household income. My brother was 17 at the time and was bagging groceries after school to buy a car because he was going to start college about 3 hours away from our home. When she figured in his income, we didn't qualify for any assistance. The lady said if he didn't report it, she could help us. My dad being honest wouldn't lie and just left. We struggled but finally made it through, but it sucked for a couple of years until the economy picked back up. It sucks that people who could really use the help and are honest about their situation end up getting screwed.

 

No! I said that would take care of a bunch of people. I didn't say it would take care of EVERYBODY. It would take care of the people who take illegal drugs and have government assistance.

 

I think that is a misconception that a lot of people are under.

My girl put on some pounds years back. She put them on with the quickness. She eventually got sick of being "heavy" and started to take the pounds off. It took longer than it did to put them on, but she did it the right way. She ate right and exercised. I saw the transformation happen right before my eyes. She's kept the pounds off for years now and is in great shape. She educated herself on what foods are the most beneficial. She's had an influence on me and now I'm eating better too.

Some people seem to think that they can have that plazma TV as long as they just eat from the dollar menue. You can't get the food you need to sustain yourself from the dollar menue. You end up needing more to feel full so you end up spending more dollars on the dollar menue. You also end up puttting more crap into your body.

I have learned from experience that you can actually spend less on food by choosing the right foods. You might have to spend more on the front end to purchase the food but it'll be cheaper than the dollar menue in the long run.

Stop eating out every day. I bring in a lunch. It's good, healthy food and if you were to figure the cost, it comes to about three bucks. That's breakfast, lunch, snacks and a thermos of coffee. I used to spend almost twenty dollars a day on this stuff. Granted I'm not a big guy, but I can eat a decent amount. Do the same thing for dinner. How much does a Hungry Man dinner cost? Just buying the food and preparing it yourself saves a good amount of money.

Me starving? Not yet. No plazma TV in this house either. There are some people in unfortunate circumstances that genuinely need help. There are people who just have to have the plazma TV and the twenty-four inch dubs then complain that they have to eat off the dollar menue. Have they made the right choices, especially when the economy is weak? Are their poor choices my responsibility? When they are starving should I feel guilty?

Survival of the fittest just sounds like a cliche. If things get as bad as the doom and gloomers say they will, it'll be more than a cliche.

 

just spent $320 on groceries. most i've EVER spent and gotten so little. meat is just freaking outrageous. gonna have to stop the once a month trips to the grocery store...

just fyi though... it HAD been 2 months since we went grocery shopping... we were saving up for our vacation we went on.. finally ran outta ramen and macaroni and cheese monday night lol

 

about a week ago i was at the store and there were these two kidds in line in front of me and they were wearing fubu shirts air Jordan's and gold necklaces buying 2 bags for hot Cheeto's and a watermelon with their food stamps. and they leave the store with a BMW with 20's. i don't think there is anything else that pisses me off more than that.

 

I was behind two Mexican girls in a food store a few months ago and they both could not speak a drop of English and paid for thier food in food stamps. Great huh?? Now they have figured it out..

 

Arizona is so bad about this we have been seeing it for years they pay for the frozen pizza with food stamps and then pull out the three inch thick wad of $100 bills to pay for the beer.

 

Don't get me wrong, I grew up on free lunch and W.I.C. food. There were 6 of us and combined my parents probably brought home around 35-40k a year. We made it on what we had and I appreciate the things that I work for.

From what I hear the federal government is spending millions of dollars in the welfare program on top of what the states already spend. Much of that money is going to advertising to get more people who qualify but don't need welfare into the program so they can keep it around! I think the whole program needs a huge overhaul. I think that assistance should be available to those who are not disabled but for a temporary period. To get someone back on their feet, not feed them for the rest of their lives. I've heard stories from the ghetto of people having more kids because that meant more money. Dunno if it's true or not but it would not surprise me.

I know there are people out there on disability living in government subsidized housing/apartments and they should be the main ones receiving this benefit. Then I drive through some government housing areas and see nothing but nice cars sitting on big rims with their stereo's bumping (I'm a police officer, I see it). The reason why is while they are collecting unemployment and welfare they are also selling drugs so they can live "ghetto rich". It makes me sick to think I work 6 days a week for 56 hours to bust my butt to get some nice things and this piece of trash sits on his butt and has better things than I do! I guess that's the advantage to being a democrat!
