LOLz. You have nothing on it. . . The 5.3 is a gen III Smallblock and takes very well to LS mods.

You have what 235-260HP 330-345Trq

Him-270-310HP 315-325Trq

youre killing him with torque numbers.

strap a trailer behind each truck and see who's happy then. that's what a truck is for anyway.

my buddy thinks his truck can beat mine in a race, we havent raced yet though. Im unsure as to who would win.

His truck:
2001 Chevy Silverado EXT cab 4x4 5.3 4.5 inch lift 33s, stock gears.
-custom tuning, K&N intake, Flowmaster catback.

My Truck:
2004 F150 Ext cab 4x4, 5.4 3.73 stock height
-custom tuning, K&N intake, flowmaster catback.

still wont help him much. Wont take long for the chevy to blow past if it even has to. People understand that horsepower is needed to keep a load going, torque is just to get it started while its standing still.

Not to mention the 5.4 would prolly blow a plug out anyway. . . Only dirt you have on a Chevy is piston slap, and thats on cold days. . . .

those tires are going to kill his chances. Put his stockers hack on and enjoy his taillights. . .

You think so? My stock F150 tires are about 31.8" (265 70r 17), and most 33's are 32.5 or so. You think 3/4 of an inch would make up for the faster 5.3?

My buddy's silverado will spank my brother's 5.4 w/3.73's

(I have a 4.6, so no comparison)

Its amazing what a tire size or two will do. With my stock tires I could get a ***** TON more milege and power in my truck. I up'd a size or two and the thing is a complete dog, constantly dropping out of OD and dropping agear on slight hills. Tires make a huge difference, hence why all SUV's had smaller tires and why your average medium duty truck has tiny tires, for power and milege.

As much as I would love to tell you the 5.4 Ford has it all over the Chevy, the facts are the Chevy is an awesome power unit. My brother has a 2008 Chevy extended cab 4x4 with the 5.3 flex-fuel and it is just incredible. I've driven loads of 5.4 3v and a stock one doesn't stand a chance against the GM 5.3. Worst part, he gets over 24 mpgs hiway at 70 mph. That's what my under powered 4.6 SCrew gets at 65 mph. I considered a Chevy 5.3 until I drove his for a weekend. Too much GM glitz for me and the ergonomics suck real bad. And for an extended cab- there's no place to put anything. I don't race my SCrew and don't plan to but I believe the Ford will go far more miles with far fewer problems. Reliability is why I bought a Ford.

You MIGHT have a chance from a roll. . . I see these OHC engines have a bite from a roll. . .

Though a 5.3 Z71 is quicker (been there, done that), when comparing engines, it must be kept in mind that the 5.4 is pushing around about half a ton more in weight. The F150 is a much heavier truck. Consideing all that, my F150 still gets up and goes to my satisfaction.

Your buddy has an 06 5.3 that means according to MSN auto that at the engine he's running:

295HP and 335TQ vs your __________ I actually couldn't find any results from anywere. regardless... the new models only have 300Hp and 345TQ so you have to have less unless its a harley addition. Power at the engine.

On your side is that you weigh less then the late model 5.4 but you have less power.

So your going to lose. sorry

But on the bright side: If your friend would of bought a 07 he would of gained an additional 20Hp and 3lb of TQ.. so 315 and 338. So who the big winner.. you are, for not buying a truck that was updated the very next year.

Winner you.

I have outrun a few newer model chevy trucks they had the fugly slanted headlights, 2 of them were single cab 5.3 and one was an extended cab 6.0. They really aren't that fast, I know they all had atleast an exhaust, and the 6.0 had an intake its my buddies truck. I just edge them out from a roll but from a dig I killed the 2 5.3's and had the 6.0 by about a truck. I am running 265/70/17 10 ply tires with a 3.55 rear also, my mods are exhaust, tuner(caned tunes), and efans. The 5.3 is a dog from a dig, it doesn't make any tq until high in the rpm range. Its only like 335ft/lb at4000rpm where the 3v is a 365 at 3750rpm.
