Which Forum Program To Use?

Hi there, so I am creating a forum, no not another ford one (Im not like that annoying dude that kept spamming on here) but something on a completely unrelated topic.

Have any of you ever created a forum before? Right now I am building it using phpbb 3.0 , a free forum program, but I just don't like the look of the forum.

I am thinking of maybe dishing out the $160 and buying V Bulletin, the program used for this site.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

You have used it before? How is the help with it, and it is it pretty easy to customize and download different styles?

back when I had my own site/board, I used phpbb, which is free. It also has a fair amount of plugins/community support for it as well. I haven't used anything in a few years though, so I don't know how anything has changed since I used it.

How did you like using phpbb? I am thinking of keeping it just because it is free.

it didn't look as nice and slick as vbulletin, but it got the job done. Frankly, I don't think my users really cared/noticed the difference, so it worked for me.

I have used PHPbb and had a lot of luck with it. There are a TON of mods for it.
Demo : free forums
