Acidic Electrical smell
Acidic Electrical smell
Just noticed it again (first time I thought it was someone else or the area I drove through) while driving with the windows down. Didn’t smell anything driving, didn’t smell when I blasted the heat. But when I stopped, the cab filled with a smell that I can only best describe as that acidic electrical smell. When I stopped, I did nose checks under the truck, exhaust tips and engine vents by the front window. I could not locate where it was coming from. My MagnaFlow was installed in late December and this was one of the first times since that I was romping on it a little. Nothing crazy but opening it up for the first time this spring. Nothing else has been added recently. I know this is one of those kind of vague questions, but anyone else know this smell and what it could be linked too. I plan on trying to re-create it after work then spend the night trying to find it. Any tips on where to poke around would be helpful.
Yeah I've smelled it before. No luck re-creating it but I poked around under the hood tonight anyway. Couldn't find anything out of place, no wires fired, nothing hitting a heat source... You think it might be the exhaust burning someting off.

The only complaints we get every once in a while is the smell of the Mandrel Grease burning off the pipes. That usually goes away in 500 to 800 miles.
Odd it wouldn't have happened within 500-800 miles even if he was babying it until now, but it could happen.
After nothing for a day, last night it was back when I pulled into the drive way. I quickly poped the hood and started looking (and sniffing) around. Man that just doesn't sound right. Anyway I caught a hint of smoke. I was head down on the left side of the engine and I saw it to the right. It wasn't enought to locate the source, it was real quick.
I checked all the wiring on that side, looked for something hitting a heat source, and also looked for oil drips or anything else that shouldn't be happing under there. Nothing...
I thought I should bring it in, but what would I tell them, It smells and I can't find anything....

Update
Should have posted this a long time ago. One day I pulled into my drive way the front tire was smoking. Hey I found the source. I brought it in to the dealer. Cracked piston was the cause, wasn’t fully releasing the brakes causing them to heat up and burn. That must be good for my new pads and rotors. The other side was chipped so I had both replaced. I don’t think brake pistons should go at 55,000.
