Crappy Ford accessory installers!

My wife drives an '07 Mercury Mariner (Same as an Escape) and when she first got it, she had them put in the factory Sirius option. Lately when we drive it there had been a really annoying rattle coming from the dash that I couldn't find. I was cleaning the car the other day and decided to look for the rattle. I pulled the radio out just to look and the idiots had just laid the Sirius tuner box up on top of the tube going to the dash air vent. Not secured in any way, just laying there sliding around. Not only that but they had crammed the wiring harness all up into a wad, including knots, wrapped it with masking tape of all things, and had it all entagled in the radio harnesses. What a mess! I took it all out, ran the cable and antenna lead neatly and hidden to under the passenger seat, secured everything down, and it is correct now.

What a mess. I guess it shouldn't suprise me but this was done at a supposedly "higher end" Lincoln/Mercury dealer. Being very OCD about my vehicles, things like this really aggrivate me.

Pretty sure it was a dealership employee and not a "Ford accessory installer".

Some mechanics do not pride themselves in the work they do. But rather pride themselves in making people unhappy towards Ford.

It's a conspiracy against Ford huh? I think the more correct answer would be the people who don't pride themselves in their work are the ones who are lazy and want to get the job done as fast as possible. Not make people mad at Ford.

Well... from looking around it's a two sided coin... some people don't realize until after some investigation that Ford doesn't have any control over what those service centers do. On the other side of the coin, some know that the service center is owned by a local dealership (business).

The people that don't know is what hurts Ford in some regard.

Thumper, I meant to add the lazy part... but yes, some are just flatout lazy, had a bad day, etc, but it still ends up in the customer's hands.

Then again, some are really good, and strive to do their best.

It's a two sided coin there too.

Wish they would pay for quality and professionalism for these kind of installs. I'd be a millionaire by now...I'd work there and be rich. I'm really glad I left the Avic D3 install in my F150 to myself. I soldered, shrinktubed, and neatly ran, organized, and hid every connection and wire. I guess I'm just alot more picky and maybe OCD than the average car guy out there.

To be honest I wouldn't have been upset if they had done something slightly silly but just loosely laying the reciever box up in the dash, knotting up the wiring, and just a plain sh*tty mess is not acceptable. However, I'm sure all different car brands have their own third-party accesory installers that do the same shoddy work.
