Summer Job For a student

Well summer is approaching and I will be graduating High School in June. I have a few months of summer before I go to college in late August.

What are some good summer jobs for someone at my age? I am in Southern California if ya wanted to know. I was thinking of trying to maybe be a bell boy at a local hotel (the ritz or a few others that are just as nice as or nicer than the ritz) Even though that would be minimum wage, I assume that it would be fairly generous tips because the people staying there probably are fairly wealthy.

(oh and I'm lookin to do something part time so I can still relax a little and go to the beach )

Honestly, if you want to make money, weekends are the best time. But there are tons of things to do. Work for tune-up shops. Work for car dealers cleaning cars, or mowing grass. Working at restaurants, or local shops. Go to the mall and work at a clothing store.

Offer assistance to elderly people to run their errands, do house chores, etc.

But, either make up your mind if you want to make money, or relax. They both don't ever go together.

When I was a younger I worked at the local university warehouse and electrical department. Was like $5.50 an hour, but it was easy, plus it had great views!

Try for a job at your school/college/univ in the library, warehouses, shipping, computer, etc departments. They usually have things open for kids and college students. Some universities actually have programs for kids with parents who don't make much so they can make money for clothes, etc.

I assume I could detail cars, but how would you go about getting the business? I have products to detail my truck but I sure don't think I would use that many steps on another persons car or I would have the car forever.... I have clay bar, megs 80, megs 9, megs 21, and megs 26, and a wolly world polisher ....

And not really any interior cleaners other than febreeze.

What would you do on anothers car? How much would you charge, and how long would you spend?

Find out what places near you charge and charge 1/3 the price. For instance if the local "bobs detaling service" charges lets say 50$ an hour, charge 15 or 20. If they bring their own chemicals, charge 8 or 12.

But, detailing might not be so good. If someone brings me a 100,000 bmw, I'd be hesitant to scratch it....

Now your in legal trouble.

ya.... that is kind of what I was thinking too, especially because I am not incredibly experienced in detailing.

Any other jobs that have treated you pretty well?

I am in High School right now. However I just drove around and started to apply and warehouse's and such. And now I have a kick a$$ job that pays damn well for being a high school senior. Just go out their and look is all I am saying. Do not really have a vision on a certain job as the way the market and economy is now you may be going from job to job

A couple months ago I thought I was going to be out of work. Now I've got 3 jobs, and I'm working like 80 to 90 hours a week.

Least I am going to be a cashcow this summer..

If you know anything about golf I would check out these courses in Cali. I worked for this same company in DFW the past summer at the club, Vaqeuro to be exact, and made some REAL good money and you work when you want to. You also get paid in cash so it's tax free. You go to the club sit for a couple hours caddy for four or five and get a minimum of 100 bucks a round, my best round was 165 but others have gotten up to 600 bucks in one day. I would assume that these clubs would offer caddies to the players like the one I worked for. You also get to meet some cool people, Dallas Star's player Brenden Morrow, Terry Bradshaw, and a few others.

When I was in College, I ran a Mobil Gas Station, my Boss saw how clean & Detailed my 1979 Monte Carlo was. He asked me If I would detail his "Guards Red", Porsche 944 Turbo! He liked the job so much that he gave me referals from all of his friends who drove High End Cars! This was back in the 80's! I charged $100.00 even for a interior/exterior detailing! Back then that was big money! For a minimal investment in Meguiars Products, I made a killing, I did approx. three cars a week + my job running the station!........

Thanks for the suggestions - Being a DJ would be hard because I don't have the equipment and I would have to buy tons of songs (or illegally download tons which would be sketchy)

I like the golf club idea, I wonder if the local courses near me do that. How does it work, you sit around and someone is like want to be my caddy, I will give you $100 bucks. I'm not too familiar with golf, so what exactly do you have to do besides hold clubs and give him what he asks for.

I am still a bit scared of doing detailing because I don't want to mess up people's cars. I could try a few I guess. How exactly would I find people. Supercrewman, it sounds like you got lucky with finding your customers.

I am still open for suggestions.

Thanks
