There are several companies drilling for oil in Cali. Go roughneck for the summer, around ND they are starting at around $28/hour. They typically work 12 hour shifts and 1-2 weeks on and 1 week off. Plus there are tons of other oilfield jobs that would be available for the summer. Just look around, there is a ton of money to be made you just have to be willing to work for it.

ya there are tons of jobs out there. To me it just seems like part time jobs don't pay that well (it makes sense) so I was just wondering if there are at pt's that have pretty good pay.

Absolutely.

I too am in college, and I have 3 jobs this summer.
1) working at Big 5 during the week
2) ranch for a couple weeks
3) referee competitive youth soccer games on weekends <--- (bomb a$$ job. Make over 40 bucks a game, pure cash and checks. say you do 3 games saturday 3 sunday, thats 6 hours of work and over 250 bucks cash. per weekend. I love it, been doing it 6 years now).

You are in CA too, so get certified to ref CYSA games, they pay extremely well and its EASY work.

all it takes is one mistake to cost yourself a crapload of money.

if you are going to charge people to detail their car, you need to know what you are doing, and you need to have some sort of insurance that will provide some protection for them and yourself, in case you make a mistake.

You would more than likely have to work out on of those courses I gave you a link too earlier. Pretty much you go to the caddy shack whatch TV until your up and when someone needs a caddy you go with them and give them clubs, yardages, clean clubs/*****, suck up to them, and find their golf ***** when they hit **** shots. There are two types of caddieing, forecaddies and loopers. Forecaddies do small groups of people and have to work their asses off while loopers have one specific person to deal with, making it MUCH easier. You will need to know what your talking about when caddieing for people or they will get pissed.

Are you interested in hands-on stuff? A couple of summers in construction can teach you an amazing variety of how to build, fix, maintain, etc anything. It teaches you the value of hard work and most of the stuff you will be carry with you into all other jobs forever. You learn to appreciate the older guys who know how to do all the work that they've been doing for 30+ years. Plus, like the lawncare guys said before, construction is a great physical workout in every aspect. Im 24 and in graduate school, and this summer will be my first summer that I won't be pouring concrete, laying sewer pipe, or running heavy equipment.

Give it a try, it pays good money. Going to work for a general contractor can guarantee you $10/hr. Commerical building rather than residential will probably pay more. I worked for a gen. contractor once building airport hangers (govt job, prevailing wage) and made over $28 an hour, just to tie re-bar and pour/finish concrete. Easy money.

I used to paint the dorm rooms over the summer to make extra money. It was easy and I had a blast cause there would be 3 or 4 others working on the same floor and we would give each other s*** all day.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I am gonna go look around town and pick up some applications at places. I may also do some stuff on my own, either detail for neighbors, mow lawns for neighbors, or maybe even do some PC help.

Has anyone ever done Computer Virus/ Ad/Spyware removal for people. No offense but lots of older people weren't born in this generation and aren't too swift with computers and would pay 20 bucks to get it off their computer.

I have had a few summer jobs back when I was young that I loved. The first was being a lifeguard. It was easy and you bascially just relaxed all day. The second is valet parking. Kind of fun driving some of the nicer vehicles and you get to jog around and stay in shape too.

One last suggestion.

Work as a valet at a nice resteraunt or hotel. Hourly pay isnt that great, but if there are lots of rich people that go there, they give good tips, and you get the bennefit of driving some of the nicest cars.

Im from San Diego and we all just got scared form the fires. My brother is trying to do somethin with construction since so many houses were burned. Go around to your neighbors and ask for some different companies. You will most likely be the Bi*** but you will most likely get paid a decent amount.
Good Luck
