Towing a travel trailer. I am excited!!!!!

Well its official I have reserved our camp site at the lazy l and l in New Braunfels for Memorial day weekend.

we are staying here....
http://www.lazylandl.com/

we have site 110 reserved. Its directly on the river and has full electric and water hookups..

I am pulling a starcraft 24ft trailer down there. I am pretty sure my truck can handle this thing pretty easily. This thing has 2 bunk beds and a queen size bed, refridgerator, full shower and bathroom, A/C, etc..
check it out.......

Your truck should pull that no problem especially if you use a equalizer type hitch and brake control. We just got back from a 700 mile round trip with our Sunset Trail ST29RL and my F150 towed it flawlessly. That campground looks pretty nice, especially if you are right on the water.

Nothing better than hauling a huge trailer with your truck. Shouldnt have an issues with that weight, you have the towing package right?

Yeah its an FX4 supercrew. Its got the tow package. I am not sure if the 24ft starcraft has electric brakes or not. And I have no clue what an equalizer type hitch is. But the guy at the camper rental place said my truck would pull it easily. I think this camper weighs about 4500 lbs. You still heading down there memorial day weekend Scott? I have 10 people going besides myself. (not all in the camper!)

Most all travel trailers have electric brakes on all axles, so get you a decent brake control like a Tekonsha Voyager (~50 bucks) or a really good one (I have the Prodigy P3 and love it) and get you some sort of load levelling hitch. I personally recommend the Equalizer, but any of them are better than nothing.

Since I am renting this thing and not towing it ever again I am not going to buy anything to help me tow it besides what the camper rental place gives me. I think I should be fine. I have towed a 3000lbs boat with my old 2002 ranger I had with a 3.0 v6 for 200 miles. This should be much easier than that.

Looks like you're going to have a hoot!

I wouldn't bother dishing out the cash for the equalizer either, especially since it's a rental and it's not like you're pulling it (er, "towing it" sounds better ) on a regular basis.

I think your truck will handle it fine with just the hitch and brake box.

you are not going far at all. just take it easy.
when I had my 01 f150 i pulled from houston. i got 7 mpg
how did you get the spot? we have to book 1 year out to get good spots on weekends.
weight isnt the issue, its the wind that bugs me.

i am going to river road camp on June 5,6 7. and 8th. we try to do it 2 times a year.
without a doubt this is the most relaxing vacation we do.
i got a smoking deal on my travel trailer, but renting 3 or 4 times a year is cheaper than buying, storage and up-keep.

we stopped and bought $30 remote control boats and batterys at walmart.

Yeah it did, even with all the weight in the back seat.

SO do you think I need a brake box for a 24ft trailer? I looked it up and found different sites saying it weighs anywhere from 3500-4000lbs
