Anybody know any good info about the new Silverado Hybrid?

It's kind of appealing - much more so than the new diesels coming out with the price of diesel.

I'd like to see it in comparison to the ecoboost.

5.3V8 hybrid with a chebby body or a 4._ somethin V6 ecoboost in oval blue?

 

I'm not positive, but I think I read somewhere that the mileage really isn't all that great on it.
That was the older one though. Not too sure about the new one.

 

They don't have any real info on it on their website. I know the Tahoe Hybrid is said to get 20mpg mixed driving (based on consumer reports,) but I haven't heard any projected numbers/figures.

Sucks they didn't use the 6.0L though. That motor is quite a beast.

*note: Not discounting anything Ford makes. I'm a die-hard blue guy. Just checking out other options. Any responsible buyer should do this.

 

I wonder do theyhave direct drive dc motors, or dothey have a trnasmission?

I would expect the Silverado to be just under these numbers.

 

Good read. Seems to be a 6K option. Not bad saving 6-8mpg. I too wonder if they're going to use the same electric transmission or a real one since it's a truck and not a SUV.

However, based on calculations, it would take 90,000 miles to re-coup 6000$ getting 20mpg vs. 15mpg... Doesn't quite seem intelligent as I probably wouldn't keep a vehicle that long.

 

Maybe they will come up with a good one someday.

Meanwhile I'll park my money in the garage. I'll be much happier that way

 

good point. I see a lot of these going to fleet in the short term.

the more of these that get out there the cheaper it will be. Won't be too long before its only a $2k option.

 

Befroe anybody runs out to buy one you might want to consider the risks......fire risks, that is. You not only have the fuel system fires that a normal car will have but now you have high voltage to deal with. First reponders to the wreck may not know how to handle the situation and you might become well done bar-b-q before they get you out. The biggest issue is that not every hybrid has the same system and reponders have to know each vehicles systems and how to disable them BEFORE touching the car or they could get electrocuted. If I'm in a wreck, I certainly don't want some volunteer fire dept standing around trying to figure out how to get me out. Even if the car doesn't catch fire, it could become electrified and fry yer backside while you're trying to get out on your own. Not good in my book. here's some of the lists

Agreed. Especially considering the weak electric tranny in a 4wd, I can't see one lasting me very long. 2k would be a nice sticker price.

I'm hoping Ford works some magic with the eco-boost and doesn't put a high sticker on it.

whats not to believe? hybrids do better in city than highway most times..
