Let's start over......
The guys I usually play with like to hit two off number one if you need it. Then no mulligans. Play the ball down, never improve the lie. If it is wet and muddy, pick, clean and place. In the fall when there are so many leaves on the fairway, sometimes, you just can not find the ball. We have a rule called the leaf rule. If the group agrees the ball should be in an certain area, but it can not be found due to the leaves, you get a free drop.
If you roll the ball, improve the lie or don't count all the strokes, you are not playing golf. You just fool yourself into thinking you are better than you really are.

Other than the two off number one and the leaf rule, we play by the USGA rule book. Oh, and except for the 14 club rule, unless we are in a tourney.
