Let's start over......
The Jazzfest is held at the Fairgrounds horse racing track so they have a fairly good drainage system. Probably goes underground to Bayou St. John and then into Lake Ponchartrain. For being under sea level New Orleans has a good drainage system for being built over a hundred years ago. 3 to 5 inch rainfall amounts in a short time is where they have problems.
The fastest patman! Start it with a carpenters pencil, only brake that works is the front passenger side, water pump leaks BAD, and the oil pressure light comes on at idle.
This is the way Gotts looks at it....
Keys can be misplaced on race day. Can start it with just about anything. Brakes? What do you need brakes for? It's a race car. Water pump leaking. Added wieght reduction the longer the race goes on! And low oil pressure means less power train loss. And just for good measure I cut the exhaust off...

and if the car is moving fast enough, no need for a water pump at all, the vortex of air coming in through the grill will siphon off the heat from the engine..... water pump is really only used at idle
This 2.4 has a decent of nuts attached to it. I took it up my little secluded road, locked the e brake and gave it all she had. Definitely left a nice little 30 foot black mark.
You actually got my little mind going patman. If I actually deleted EVERYTHING and re routed the widshield washer squirters to go to cylinder head and pressed the button once in a while. Think it would last for the 15 min races?
In all seriousness I think it might be a fun project to redesign it and make it run as air cooled.
Old VW were air cooled right? An air pump (fan) and a heat exchange?
