started it up this morning, lot of black smoke.. And left it running and came back a few minutes later and sounds like total crap. Slight knocking or taping sound. Just sounds like crap. you can clearly hear the ticking or knocking on the passenger side.

This is why i bought a NEW truck. To not worry about this crap.

Can yal tell im having a bad day???

I dont want to hear it either Jim, a 5.slow has just as much chance of blowing as a eb
lessor of a chance....

might want to get the cops and plug gaps checked....imo

Dont get me wrong, Ford makes some damn good trucks but just seems like there are problems with both of the engines. Hear horror stories on the eb, then on the 5.0.. More in the mustangs but have been quite a bit on the f150 side.. I know that any engine is not going to be perfect but still shouldnt be having problems at 25k or atleast sound like my truck does especially being a 1 year old truck.

That doesn't sound like a solid engine knock.

To me the whole engine just sounds like crap, especially the right side.. Its always made a little bit of sound but just thought it was the injectors ticking.. This isnt injector's. Patrick said sort of sounds like a exhaust leak. Would be nice if that was all it was.

Headed up to fort worth this weekend to visit the in laws, if it makes it until monday i will bring it in to let the dealership look at it.

That would be nice but with all the driving i do, im afraid the fuel mileage would kill my wallet. Ive seen reports of people getting close to 18 and other are in the 13 to 14 range on the highway.. Be my luck the one i get would be the low highway mpg.

The dealer I go to for oil changes in Burleson, the service guy, told me they had a few EBs come in and only one 5.0. He said they were pretty sure the 5.0 was a wrong oil used issue. They sell and service a lot of vehicles, so I don't think they are seeing an issue with any of the engines.

Thats probably ture, when you research on the internet all you find is the bad things, usually people don't write how great their vehicle is. Probably 20,000 great vehicles to 10 bad ones

I do know on the eb stories most people said it was running great, then heard a pop and the engine was done.

I know something isnt right though, cause of the smoke this morning and when i took off i was rolling baby coal for a few miles .

Im sure if it blows up i will either keep it or just get another truck later (2015 F150). I wouldnt mind owning either engine. I keep thinking Ram in the back of my mind, then think WTF was i thinking

Coy, is your truck tuned?

Not to start a war or anything, but most of the issues with the 5.0 I've seen come up on other forums are noise/knock related issues that can be traced back to a few TSB's. Mainly the stretchy belt issue on early models, a water pump related one, and the other being the timing chain. Those are most common ones I see.

That's caused by all the black smoke.

Not going to start a war, i will be one of the first ones to say the 5.0 is a good engine, i just like picking on Jim and a few others. My neighbor had a 5.0 and had problems the whole time, finally around the 5k mark it died on him. Turn out he lost compression on one of the cylinders and had the coolant puking out of the bottle, along with a sloppy tranny and popping suspension. The other friend had low compression also on his but he had 58k trouble free miles before anything ever went wrong. Same with the Eb i know a few people that love it with no problems and others have had problems the whole time of owner ship.
