Might be hard to get rid of your gas guzzling F150 soon enough...

I think I found the solution to getting people away from SUVs and Trucks as ways for family transportation.
My solution:
Make them uncomfortable, noisey, non-luxurious, ugly, and the only option is stick shift, 4x4 and an ungodly gas guzzling 8.1l v8 engine that gets 200 hp at 300 ft/lbs of torque. No A/C, cruise, power steering, etc. Heck, just a vinyl bench seat and a steering wheel with a stick for the 4x4 and tranny.

Why the F would you do that??? If people want a truck or an SUV for a family rig then so be it, why try to stop them?? People should drive a a little ****box car because they WANT to, not because they are FORCED too.
Your solution makes no sence.
this isnt new, my best friends dad has owned a dealership in atlanta for the past 15 years. 5 years ago when gas began to creep up he stopped accepting them as trades. and he is doing VERY well.

Given the crazy s@#* he's posted in the past, I'm having a difficult time determining if that was sarcasm or whether he was really serious with that dumbass idea.
What I find rather odd is the mere fact that even though fuel costs are going up, so are people's wants and expectations out of cars/trucks.
Which leads me to believe that most people who think they need a pickup truck to haul their kids to soccer practice need help in the mental area. Not because it is stylish, or powerful... but rather a social standing.
95% of Americans don't need a pickup truck.
Which turns me to state this: People back a few years ago, not that long ago, used to share things, or ask for help. Not any more. Now everyone wants to be Mr.I can do everything. So more people buy pickup trucks of their own. So what does that do? It makes them also want luxury, and style. Now look... we turned on our own neighbors, our planet, and our social ways of doing activities. Back when I owned my '99, a lot of people asked me if I could help them move using my truck. Or to generally have me haul something in my truck. Now, with a larger truck, and being older, I've yet to be asked!
So any way you slice it, America is it's own worst enemy. If it's not what gets it now, it's what goes around comes around.
It's sad, really.
I hate to say it, but by poisoning the pickup/suv market with bland vehicles, is the only way to kill off people using big heavy vehicles for everyday use.
Then again, I notice some people around here are getting rid of their trucks for conservative cars. Which if I follow correctly, if gas prices hit about a dollar higher, people will go back to thinking you are stupid by driving a pickup truck, like it was 5+ years ago... Instead of, "oh, it's hottt to drive a truck!" Mark my words... it will happen.

I am all for them bringing back trucks like CJ's, Scout's, and Bronco's and losing all these fully independant suspensioned AWD things that can do a fair job of bouncing the kids across town but can't handle anything more than a tacky mud road.
They take the worst of both worlds and combine them, they make them too fancy to be what they where originally, and yet too trucklike to be the best family hauler out there.

I can tell youve been around the block a few times old mann...remembering back like what? 5 years ago, more
how old are you now? 18, 19, 20? Thats like almost a lifetime for you...
I understand why you think the govt(i have to assume you meant the govt because the car companies wont poison their own product) should step in and poison vehicle production, we(society) cant blame you, youve spent the last years of your short life in a public daycare, oops i meant school, my mistake.
BTW, yeah I think your crazy for suggesting these things, but hey, your entitled to your opinion.
I read on the news that more and more dealers are not accepting used SUV's as trade-ins. It will be interesting to see what happens to the used auto market by end of summer. I can see these vehicles possibly being shipped in bulk overseas to China where gasoline is government regulated.
