1997 F150

Can any of you F150 guys advise me?....
I have been offered a 1997 F150 XLT pickup with a 4.6 triton engine.
The truck is in good condition, but,...it has 220,000 miles on the clock.
Would anyone care to advise me regarding the durability of these engines and transmissions?

Engine should hit 300k if it's been well maintained. The tranny could go at any time.

I have a 97' f150 with 233,000 and it has never given me a major problem just the usual stuff that needs changing. I did have to rebuild the tranny but that was expected.

I have a 99 with the 4.6 it has 205000+ on it just replaced the tranny and ive been yanking my hair out trying to fix a drivability problem that turned out to be a 3inch section of hose that connects the in tank fuel pump to the hard lines all in all these trucks dont have near as many problems as alot of other high milage trucks ie they dont get the chevy hood bend or the bad cab mounts on some dodges and ive never heard of the frame disentergrating like a toyota this is my 7th ford truck and other than little stuff these are great trucks so if the price is right and you like the truck

I got about 108k on my '99 with only minor bugs.... but it was a great truck. My '07 isn't bad either with 14k on the clock.

My dad's '97 with a 5.4 has 197K-something with nothing more than regular maintenance type stuff. Doesn't leak a drop, uses about half a quart of oil between services, and I need to fix some broken exhaust manifold studs.

If the price is right, I'd ****** that F150 up.

My '97, 4.6L, XLT has about 180K on it with no repair issues...none but maintenance items/service. No leaks and no oil burning.

Id take it in a heartbeat, just expect problems at any time.

There was a 98 4.6 on ebay a year or two ago that had over 550,000 on the original engine and was only on it's second tranny...thats pretty good
