Chains and dump truck drivers

Is there any relation to why my friend mentioned to me that if I get my CDL and drive a dump truck, I need to have chains hanging down from my truck for a sign that I drive dump trucks around?

What is the heck is the point of that?!

I would call bs on that. It seems kinda pointless. My dad has his cdl and he definately does not have chains hanging from his truck. I think if any thing maybe he ment you have to carry chains for each tire on your rig per dot. Well at least all of our clients buying new trailers from us keep telling us thats the new dot rule.

What if you haul truck nut's or rubber chicken's, do you to hang them from the rear of your truck? I think someone's just messing with you! I've been fooling with big truck's for over 30 yrs. and that's a new one on me.

Are you refering to the chains that hang behind the mud flap. the weight of the chain makes the mud flap hang down striaghter in wind resistance.

Hind keepes the rocks that fly behind the wheel, lowers to the ground.

All gravel and log thrucks in this area have them.

No I meant to say hang chains from my F150 for example, signifying that I drive a dump truck...

Which from trucker's posts... it is indeed a fallacy.

I am a truck driver and even though I don't drive dump trucks, I have never seen/heard of this one either.
