Chantix - Ever used it to quit smoking?

My girlfriend is thinking about using it. Her sister smoked 1-1/2 packs a day and started using it and quit. My girlfriend has cut her habit down from a pack a day to close to a half a pack but still hasn't quit. Does anybody know anything about it besides what their website says?

My aunt is taking it right now, the only side effect is weight gain. But trust me, you'd much rather see her gain some weight then end up having lung cancer. Please help her stop smoking, it's not a good thing.

4 friends took it and it did nothing but make them sick. 1 other friend took it and quit completely. Its a head game i think. Have a butt and relax. there is no magic pill.

Just quit smoking... like don't ever buy another pack of cigarettes or smokes of sort.

Buying into that stuff just makes you waste more money than smoking.

Just tell yourself that cigarettes don't exist no more.

She's tried that. It didn't work at all. Most "reviews" I was able to find on Chantix say it helped them to quit. Her sister has been smoke free for close to 5 months now. And believe me, she was a big smoker, she always had one in her hand.

my girlfriends dad smoked for over 40 years and quit in about 2 months. i smoke about a pack a day and it helped me quit. however i was pushed into quitting and wasnt commited so i started again. the weight gain comes from loss of metabolism. smoking jacks it up so when you quit you put weight on.

I have several folks who have done great on it. the most common side effect I've heard is the funky dreams/nightmares.

I have two friends who have used it to quit.

I quit after 30+ years, but used the patch.

I really think the secret is this....

If you really want to quit, these things will help. HELP.
If you don't really want to quit, the aids will not work. Nothing will.

Cigarettes are not good for you. After having large, cancerous hunks of me cut out, I wish I could convince the world to give up tobacco. I'll settle for saving one life though.

Please let me know if I've convinced you.

I've taken it before, but at the time didn't want to quit.
i beleave if a person wants to quit the chantix will do the trick.
It will make you sick if you keep smoking with it.

I did quit once for almost 8 years. Then started again. I'll quit again soon.

Monitor her behavior. A well known Singer in the area was on it and became belligerent beating on the wrong door and was shot to death. Some have had behavioral problems with it.

worked for me when nothing else seemed to work. After first week or so your supposed to take two pills a day but it made me mean as hell so the wife told me to start smokin again or find another alternative. I started just taking 1 pill a day and have been smoke free for close to 4 months after 15 plus years of smoking. Been off the pills for close to 3 weeks now, wish me luck!

Cold turkey, only way. If someone says they WILL, it can work, I'LL TRY, they fail. Stop dead, take it from someone who loved smoking, 1 pack of 25 (canadian large pack) a day. That and the ****'s cost about $64 a carton, or almost $10 a pack seperately. F that, the way gas is going, I'll have to give up eating too.

My wife used Chantix a few months ago to attempt quitting. She complained constantly about nausea. She never completely stopped smoking but did slow down a little. If your girlfriend decides to use Chantix she should take it when she eats. Taking it with a meal greatly lessened the nausea for my wife. I agree with the cold turkey suggestion. I used this method June 5 of 07 and I'm still smoke free. Good luck to your gf with quitting. Good luck to you for putting up with the grumpiness.
