Floor Jack Q

I did a search, and didn't see this specifically answered:

What range of lift and what capacity would I need to jack up my '98 F150 (still going strong!) with the OEM off-road package and stock-sized tires/rims? I'm looking to buy a floor jack and I want to make sure I get something that will work with all of my vehicles. Assume that I would be jacking the way you're supposed to (not off of the LCAs), and I would be using the jack only long enough to get a stand under the frame, not to hold it while I work. I do want a floor jack, not a bottle, scissor, or hi-lift.

Thanks for the help,

Mike

I'd look at a Craftsman heavy duty floor jack... it's got a 21 5/8" lift on it... and it is low profile too.

Any idea which one? Sears has about a dozen of them listed...

I need something that can get under a 5.5" car frame and can also lift an f150 as high as it needs to go to get the tires off of the ground...

Have you used many "tools" from Harbor Freight? They hardly ever last more than a year. You get what you pay for

And it includes jack stands. Not that much for additional price, but have been using mine for about 10 years now. Including lifting my 04+ vehicles from the frame in front and getting the front tire off the ground. Even with 32" tires.

Harbor freight has different grades of tools. It's true "you get what you pay for" They have some good buys on some good tools also. Just don't go cheap.
