tracking old TA

my dad bought a 79 trans am new back in the day. sold it in 84 and now im trying to track it down just to see where it is and possibly buy it back. i have the vin number but any vin history website needs a 17 digit vin and this was pre 1981 so its only 13 digits. Any suggestions??

I got my vin from my old F150, and I've seriously been thinking about buying it back... it shouldn't be too expensive with 187k on the clock...

Would be interesting to go to the current owner, and say, hey, I wanna buy it back, cash on the barrel.

I think they'd be scared.... very scared...

so you should find a way to track non-17 digit vin'd vehicles and tell me how.

Actually... you can... with a fee. You can use one of those public info sites... that you pay a fee and you can find out anything you want about people...

All you have to do is carfax it and get a report of where it has been serviced.. Call the place up and be like I have my _____ truck and I forgot my name telephone number and address, can you go though all the trucks of this year/model and tell me so I can remember who I am? Thanks.
