Rebuilding a PW
Rebuilding a PW
Does anyone have any experience with working on a Polaris Personal Watercraft (PW). I would call it a jet ski, but that wouldnt be right. Anyways, I have inherited a 1997 or 98 model, 3 seater, from my dad and he said that it needs to have a oil pump put on it. He has been running it without one for the past two seasons, getting by with just mixing the oil and gas together. The only problem with doing that is it fouls the plugs rather quikly. What I was wondering was if any of you guys have one, or have any experience with this brand. I contacted the local Polaris dealer and they wont, cant even get parts for any Polaris watercraft because they dont make them anymore. Any help would be appreciated.

My cousin rebuilds them for a living all summer long. He buys them cheap, rebuilds the motors, then turns them around for a profit, so it can't be too costly to get parts for them. I'm sure there are plenty of online sources for them, as well as ebay.
If it's mixed, it's going to foul out... They often vary the mixing ratio depending on the throttle position. Mixing it will prevent it from burning up at WOT, but it will be rich for low speeds.
