To the OP, to me it'd depend on who did the work. I once looked at buying a Super Duty with a rebuilt title, mainly because I knew what type of wreck it was in (flopped on its side while towing a trailer) and how it was repaired (professionally using a new cab).
I don't know if all states are the same, but here a repaired title is one quarter has been repaired and a salvaged title is more than one. You should consider getting a carfax. Be careful, the vehicle will have much less of a resale value.
There is a guy in my home town that specializes in repairing wrecked superduties. He finds roll-overs and other wrecked trucks and rebuilds them. 99% of the trucks he does are Ford superduties with PSD. He puts on a new cab, and box and builds it with what options you want. He does awesome work and I'd consider buying one of his trucks. He always has one or two completed trucks sitting around with 10-12 wrecked. He typically takes orders for trucks and finds one then builds it though. If I didn't know who was doing the work, and didn't have other examples of what he's done it would take an awesome deal for me to do it.
It all depends...great answer huh?
Naturally, I would be wary, but my boss does this as a side business. He is currently driving one of his Explorer rebuilds back and forth from Alabama to near Syracuse, NY every week...and he is a very safety minded guy. Done right, it can be a great way to get a deal.

As far as resale
I'll let you know when the wheels are run completly off of it

Depends on who did it and how they did it.
My Ranger has been rolled (I think), it appears someone stuck a new cab on it and went. Structurally it is as solid as a rock, I would put it up against any other Ranger in that department. But whoever did it got confused somewhere between the the EFI 2.3 that the cab came with and the feedback carburated 2.8 that the chassis came with and ended up just hardwiring the engine to run.
Shop right and you can end up with a really good deal or if you shop wrong you can end up with a money pit. I have resolved my issues by retrofitting an older carb and ignition that don't have anything to do with a computer (I should have done it a long time ago) unfortunatly there isn't a easy way out like that with a newer rig though.
Resale is a moot point if you keep it for a long time, you pay much less for it now and don't get quite as much in 10 years when you sell it, big whoopie. Luckily whoever did my Ranger did in on their own dime so the title wasn't touched.

Like what's been said it depends.
1. you need to know what type of wreck it has been it and severity of the damage.
2. Who did the work, are they trust worthy?
3. State laws, can it be considered a clean title if repaired properly or is a salvage title, which will hurt resale and sometimes an effect your insurance.
My parents bought a wrecked Trailblazer a few years ago, we did as much work as we could and had shop finish it. Although it is a salvage title due to a twisted frame, it has been a very good SUV and saved a lot of money. The one thing we learned was that we should've counted on more damage than what was listed when we bought it. We knew it had a bent frame rail but turns out later the entire frame was twisted and required much more work to get it straight.
Bottom line is be very careful and research.

If it's going to be a beater to get me a few blocks and back, maybe.
Then again, I'd only buy a Corolla or similar for that chore, so that's a no-go being that unibody is DQ'ed in my opinion. No fixing that stuff.
As many good deals as there are on CLEAN titles, why bother?
My friend and I are heading down to a county auction Saturday. We can wrestle CLEAN (inside and out) cop cars and whatnot for similar prices as a salvage titled vehicle or better...
It's always (usually) the folks who don't know what they are looking for that get in trouble doing this. And they only buy Carfaxes and pass on getting a professional to inspect.
My f150 has a salvaged title, it runs fine but, I just recently found out that the previous owners lied their @$$es off when I asked them about the vehicle. I was in a fender bender and when I took the truck to the shop they found a TON! of pre-existing damage (about 5000$ dollars worth). So if you even consider buying a salvage or repaired title vehicle, ask take it to a mechanic to get it checked out, and also be wary, rebuilt vehicles have a tendency to have weird quirks in the electronics system, ex. my CD player likes to pick and choose what CDs it plays, so if you find a deal thats too good to be true... it probably is
Not my truck. i bought it for less than whole sale with a clean title. It has never in an accident. I have put over 30k in the past 14 months I hae owned it and have only done front pads and rotors and U joints
