Appointment to Surrender Your Guns?

D.C. Police Changing Plan For Gun Searches at Homes

WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier says she's changing a plan for searches of private homes for illegal guns.

The chief now says searches would be done by appointment unless there is an urgent need. Police and city lawyers are still trying to work out what can and can't be done during these searches.

Since the program was announced weeks ago, it has been delayed in part because of fears citizens' rights will be violated.

Lanier now says police will distribute literature to homes in high-crime neighborhoods asking owners to sign forms and set up appointments.

Amnesty will be granted for any gun possession charges but not for any crimes committed with that gun.

D.C. Council Judiciary Committee Chairman Phil Mendelson is holding a public hearing on the police searches on Monday.

Sure, let's make an appointment to bring some cop into my house to do a search....right after the mayor of DC makes an appointment to kiss my a$$. Nothing against cops, but I wouldn't want any stranger going through my things because I might be violating a law that is about to be found unconstitutional anyway.

Luckily, I live in Jenks, Oklahoma. No problems owning a gun here!

They could kiss my ***, there is no way they are coming in without a warent. If they decide they want to play it that way than my house will be vacant except for a bed and tv.

Wow, what a bunch of BS! It started with the required registration of guns, and will continue until the only people that have guns is the government. It's all about control, people. If the populace as a whole cannot defend themselves, the powers that be can do whatever they want.

well the gov't and the criminals would have guns. of course those could be one and the same. sure just because Heston dies they think the statement about cold dead hands doesn't apply.
then again i wouldn't live in a city that outlaws guns in the first place.

hope they let the SS or gestapo or whatever they wish to be called now days in though. should make for interesting news for a little while.

80 year old grandmother was arrested today for have a 12 gauge shotgun behind the door of her bedroom. upon returning to her residence w/o said gun she was robbed at gunpoint and killed.
yeah that's drastic but unfortunately not impossible.

Thumbs down

I understand what they're trying to do, but this method will NOT rid the bad guys of illegal weapons. Seriously, if I was a bad guy with illegal weapons, I wouldn't hide them in the house I live in...when will the government wake up and start thinking like the bad guys? That's the only way to catch them...geez Louise.

This isn't keeping honest people honest, this is bending honest people over and trying to take their rights away.

Sweet, if I lived in DC I'd definitely sign up for it.

I know where all my guns are but, I did lose my tv remote a week ago...

The same lady that stood in her front yard to wave down the policeman and said, "I was just selling cocaine to this lady and instead of her giving me the $20 for the drugs, she grabbed my supply and took off running!" Yes, this really happened...so no, I don't put it past people to do some VERY stupid things from time to time.
