I took 3 pictures with different exposures, merged them together and then used tone mapping to come up with the final picture.

It's called HDR (High Dynamic Range)

looks sweet man. i'd like to try HDR, but i don't think my canon powershot SD630 is capable.

I took those with a SD1000. I think the menus are fundamentally the same.

Yeah a tripod helps alot... although I do not own one. The photo above I used a picnic table to steady it. The software can align the photos to a degree, but cant fix it if its not very close all ready. The other picture in my gallery I took freehand.
