ESCORT radar detector, $80 rebate with trade in

See here... http://www.escortradar.com/tradein.h...il&group=titu2

I have the Escort Passport 8500 X50 and I got my first speeding ticket in February doing 53 in a 35 while passing someone on a 4 lane road. My radar detector didnt make a sound, $110 mistake.
Anyone think this is a good idea to trade in for a newer model, Ive had mine about two years or so. The rebate will bring the price down from $300 to $220.

I have owned my share of radar's and my opinion is that it gives you a false sense of security and only makes you want to speed more often. Mine sit's on my dash unplugged and only gets used for long highway trips when I am sure I can hear it and it can give me enough advanced notice

But to actually answer your question that is a pretty good deal IMO and those are some of the better detectors on the market

I don't think a radar detector would have helped you under those circumstances.

Here's a hint. My dad used to be a truck driver and got more than his share of speeding tickets. He told me many years ago that if you want to avoid most tickets, slow down as you drive through cities and high traffic areas. I have heeded his advice and rarely get a ticket (I can't remember my last one). Good sense will beat a radar detector most of the time. That said, I am sure that is a fine detector, but remember that some cops have instant on radar of which by the time the detector goes off, you will already be facing a ticket. Another thing to note is that cops do not like people who use radar detectors and you are much less likely to talk your way out of a ticket if you are using one.
