3 gig of ram rocks.. lol

Just got a new computer and this thing has 3 gig of ram. My desktop, which I thought was pretty quick, has 512 meg.

The difference in the speed of loading pages, downloads.. just incredible.

So always, always, ALWAYS load up on RAM.. LOL

I also bet you have a better processor and higher bus speeds with this new computer. Not to mention newer hard drive(s) with higher caches and most likely higher RPMs and lower seek time. Possibly even a new operating system able to utilize your hardware better.

But hells yeah, more ram to most computers makes a lot of difference. Especially multi-tasking.

Almost like adding exhaust, intake, and a chip to your fifty.

Ram

Operating systems like Vista Home and Premium and XP 32 bit can not address memory configurations more than 3 gig. 64 bit operating systems and many Linux based OSs can address memory configurations of 4 gb+.
In the event you have a video card that can expand it's mmemory by allocation RAM, more than 3 gig may benefit you.
FYI

Or you can go overboard and put in 8 gig of ram like I did on my recent build along with the e8400 processor, 3870 graphics card and vista 64 bit OS. It's a HTPC that will power all of the TVs in the entire house.

Just a few questions:
What mother board are you using and how does it address the memory configuration for 8+ gig
Have you had any issues running 32 bit software on the 64bit OS
Does the graphics card share any of the on board memory?

Thanks

Abit IP35 pro mobo and so far no problem with software though I haven't run much on it as it's a new build. I'll be putting on some tax software tonight so we'll find out. The only PITA is not having Vista SP1 on it sooner as I've been having to load drivers left and right for everything. So far I haven't configured the graphics card to share any of the on board memory as it has 512MB of GDDR4. I'm sure I'll try and figure out if it's possible to use some on board memory later.

Sounds pretty sweet. Watch that process monitor when you get a chance and see how the OS handles the execution of instructions, load balancing, etc...I would like to see if microsoft is getting better with that hoo rah.
