Thinking of buying a fixed blade

http://www.lapolicegear.com/gelmfiiknbli.html

Gerber LMF II infantry knife

I'll be using it for hiking/camping and anything else you'd use a big *** knife for. Will be cutting rope, maybe some branches, or maybe cutting my leg off if I get stuck under a boulder.

What do you guys think? Should I look at something else?

Check out. http://www.sogknives.com/store/fixed.html seal pup and the other seal knives. I have the seal pup awesome knives very durable. They have a variety of fixed blades; also check out the Blackhawk line- Pretty pricey....

Why not get a legend. The Camillus made knife of the Vietnam era:

There's also a few on ebay most times.

I would have to go with the tracker. A little hige priced, but just looking at it makes me want to go out and start cutting and killing.

Just make sure to keep the knife in a holster or visible since that would be "a concealed weapon" since it is over a 3" blade right?

I'll be the first to admit, I abuse a knife. I've broke more big name knives than you've probably seen. The ONLY knife brand that can stay with me and take the abuse is the Ontario brand of knives. They aren't light weight and they're not frilly. They are a heavy duty piece of equipment designed to be used, not for show. If you want a serious knife, look here:
http://www.ontarioknife.com/milissue.html

My truck knife is the SP-5 Bowie. The blade is 1/4" thick and I've yet to break it and I have tried.
http://www.ontarioknife.com/specplus_pg1.html

They'll also sharpen and hold an edge better than the high dollar knives.

Good point; and remember all Laws vary from state to state; might want to check your state statues to be safe.

Check out RAT Cutlery. It's going to cost a little bit more, but they're awesome knives.
