Loaner Tools from Parts Store

I'm not really familiar with the loan program for tools. I just got my Magnaflow catback SI/SO and I'm dying to put it in. Trouble is, I'm three hours from my tools and live in a college town. All the shops are going to charge $70 bucks to install it...

Will O'Reilly's or Advance Auto Parts loan you more than one tool? Say, a 1/2" drive and metric and standard sockets, two floor jacks, and a Sawzall?

I know this is kinda a bizarre request, but try having a 35lb box sitting in your bedroom not having anywhere to safely store it. Plus the agony of wondering what it sounds like!

They'll loan you as many tools as you're willing to pay for. Usually how it works is you buy the tool, but it has a lifetime warranty so it can be returned at any time. Don't think that they will rent out a Sawzall though. Check a local rental place for that... Shouldn't cost more than $15 for the day.

Is there an auto hobby shop at your school, or maybe an auto class? Or try calling around and asking about renting out a stall at a local shop for a few hours. A place I worked at would let some guys come in and rent a stall and use our tools.

Otherwise check out the rental shops, they should have everything you need there.

Here locally most charge you for the tool, and you get a full refund when you take it back. If you do it on a credit card it's no cash out of pocket, and you are returned the money before you get a statement unless you keep the tools too long.

Most have a large tubing cutter that will work for exhausts. It's not a sawzall but they work fairly good.

Save the money and get the loaner tools. Makes the mods more fun when you do some of it yourself anyway.

Ames IA has a fastenal right down the road from the 3-M plant I think they might rent some tool to you. I've worked at that 3-M quite a few times.
