Gun thoughts.............yes AGAIN!
Well here we are again and it's getting closer to summer. I have been looking more into the gun markets and a little more into the shotguns specifically. I was thinking of this http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/41871
with http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/...t-on-switching
and
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...109&hasJS=true and of course http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0028423227939a&type=product&cmCat=SEAR CH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=case&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Nt x=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=case&noImage=0&Ns=SEL_HI GH_PRICE|1&firstPage=true
So what do you guys think? I know this is in the opposite direction of the rifle, but for now this would work well for protection with bean bag rounds and there is a skeet shooting range less than 10 min from my house. Also, can someone inform me of laws regarding the carrying of a shotgun in a vehicle in VA. I.E. does it need to be unloaded in a locked case or can it be loaded attached to a roof rack or something? Just getting a feel for the rules. Also I may have to fly with it sometimes do I just take it with me in the case unloaded and check it with no worries or what is that procedure?

I just went through buying a shotgun and transforming it. I wanted a home defense shotgun that my wife could also use. I ended up going with a Remington 870 20 Gauge youth. From there I ordered most of my parts through ATI. Here is a link to the basic gun I built.

I've added an led Tac light as well. Very nice gun.

For the money, you cannot go wrong with a Remington 870 pump. I would go with a twelve gauge. The reason being, it is an all around "round". Most go with it, because they are not that accurate (Referring to the shooter). I knew a guy back in college that shot quail with a 20, and never missed. He did have a harder time with the pheasant (Knock down power). As far as dove go, you have to be a DAMN good shot to knock one down with a 20. If you can,
I bow before who ever can accomplish this task. Number 7 or 8 shot, is a great self defense round. It normally will not go through walls and kill some one unintentionally. The Remington 870, will most likely get passed down to your grandson. IF, you take care of it. DO yourself a favor, and get a synthetic stock. The wood just looks cheap, and the synthetic will take a harsher beating.
As far as flying with your gun...Check it in as you would your normal luggage. They are going to want to see that the gun is in a protected case, can be locked, and is unloaded. You must be able to lock it. Usually, you will not be able to pick it up the baggage carousel. Sometimes it has to be "claimed". Its not a big deal once you have done it.

i have a remington 870..and someone at my work brought up a good point when i told him i wast thinking of gettin rubber buck shot or a rubber slug as a home defense shot he said "Just shoot um in the head with a 1Oz 3" slug if you shoot them with a rubber round they will take you to court and win just so the MFer in the head and call if self defense!!" So i took his advice my Remington 870 sits uncased with a 1Oz slug right next to it... with 5 in a box then 25 8shot next to that and my rifle in a case with about 20-25 7.62X54R rounds ready to go! Id take a 870 i love this thing
Maybe will go to island lake or somewere like that and ill let you shoot mine so you can get a feel for the 870

Using a bean bag as the first round then pump it, and use a real round if needed. This way you at least "attempted" to keep the burglar alive
Looks very good in court when trying to claim self defense

I personally shot the mossberg 835 ulti-mag, I have one in 20 and in 12. They are both good guns. Everyone I know that has the 870 is in love with it. And they are a very good gun but i like my guns to be just a little bit heavier, thus the mossberg. But you can not go wrong with a shotgun really. As far as a protection weapon I have an ar15 with two 30rd clips ready to go along with a 9mm with 17rd clips.

But, in this day and age I could TOTALLY see a would be robber winning a lawsuit because you shot him with a beanbag and caused him physical and mental pain.
If you are using a firearm as self defense and you point it at someone you better plan on killing them, plain and simple.
As far as the scatter gun, I have a Mossberg 835 and love it, great gun. I think Mossberg was the only shotgun to pass military specs.
00 Buck should keep you and yours safe.
I have seen the military use the 870 before. Right now it is the standard for police shotguns
We'll see what happens and Ar-15 would be very cool, but wayyyyyyy out of my budget
Once I get into shooting some, then I will expand my collection. The next thing I would own after the shotgun will probably be a smith and wesson when I am 21. I will apply for a ccw and see how that goes. I like this one http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/15083
But that is when I turn 21 and get the ccw so that is a few years off. Probably will add this one to the collection first http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/42070
Anyways that is down the road. Right now I'm just looking into the 870 12ga. Should be a fun project for the summer
Campus police will even let me check in the gun so I can have it here with me if I can't get out to the farm when I get in from the airport

yeah like i said will meet up at island lake and ill let you shoot my "Hallway gun" haha its only got a 20" barrel my friends dad calls it The hallway gun. with only a 20" barrel it is very hard shooting skeet but i went 10 for 10 a few times with some buddys and thats hand thrown clays!! The best thing about a remington is... You find anyother Remingotn 12GA pump you unscrew the barrel and throw the other 12GA in and you can shoot! haha. Yeah i love my Remington 870! 3" slugs are fun!!

I hunt deer with a 20ga (Mossberg 500 BTW) with 2 1/2" shells and even at 50 yards you can still get a very obvious entry and exit wounds if too many bones don't get in the way.
BTW NYPD recently switched to using Mossbergs, and knocking on wood mine has given me very no reason to complain. I don't carry it wherever I go though, I really don't have the need...

I are jealous. That's the exact model I am looking at. It'll be absolutely perfect for HD. It's prolly not the best skeet or trap gun though.
