Off-roading with a small tractor...

I know this seems nuts... and awfully redneck... but who here offroads with their tractors for fun sometimes?

I was messing around today, and it was lots of fun... it's really hard to get stuck... but I'm sure I'll find a way. My tractor is just covered in mud and so was I.

Here are some pictures... not too much... I wanted to get some snaps when I was mud bogging... but I didn't want to bring my camera in fear it would get mudded too.

I had the bottom of the rear axle submerged and 95% of the front axle just dragging in mud. It was awesome... But the chains are what kept me paddling on...

I don't particularly go looking for mud, but there are times of the year I look forward to feeding hay. It can get pretty soft around where we feed the bales and the oversize 16.9-26 combine tires/rims on our WD really help with the float/paddle action. The big tires keep it from sinking too deep so it doesn't have much of a chance to get stuck in mud, it is however quite helpless in snow, especially with our two wheel bale mover picking up on the back end of the tractor.

You call that dirty? Mine gets dirtier than that sitting in its open front shed with a dirt floor.

Where'd the deck go on your Cadet?

Pretty big coincidence because we have a 5 acre front yard and when we get some rain one area of it becomes a swamp. I've been thinking all day about trying to get that section mowed this afternoon, my dad got stuck twice this week trying to mow it. We have a nice Craftsman mower and a smaller Bolens mower, he sunk the Craftsman so I'm gonna give the Bolens a shot. I'll post pics if I get stuck lol...

I took the snow plow off of it... and when the grass starts growing it will turn from an ultimate offroader to a lawn mower.

Speaking of diesel... I am thinking of doing a Yanmar 3 cylinder 27 hp engine mod to it... I've heard off of numerous forums that it is easily possible.

But the only gain I'll get is like 20 ft/lbs more torque. I dunno if its really worth while to step out on the limb and get rid of that tough Kohler V-Twin... I've heard that engine is totally indestructable. So...

But my dream compact tractor is this:

Cub Cadet 6284D...

That is like the totally coolest compact tractor ever.

It's got 4x4, a front, mid, and rear PTO shaft drive system, 3 point hitch on the rear....

Not only does it look cool, but it does everything a regular midsize tractor can do.

Yeah... I can pick one up for about $1200 out the door at my local farm tractor shop...

I just need to mod the electric pto clutch, change the size of the drivebelt and a few other small modifications to make it workable. From what I've heard its about a 6 hour conversion if you have everything.

Here is what we have been looking at getting minus the tiller, JD 3320-32.5hp diesel. Now just trying to justify it

That's not a bad tractor. I've test driven one, minus the bucket and tiller... but if I bought the tractor, it came with 1 extra implement of my selection for free. I would have chosen the bucket.

I think the price of it IIRC was $16k something... Again, not bad.

Dang, my 25 hp tractor set me back about $120 a couple years ago, granted it was taken apart and took 3 pickup loads to get home. No loader, but I have gotten a cultivator, plow and a 6' sickle mower combined for about what I payed for the tractor.

You can see my C tucked in behind my WD-45 puller. My WD-45's arch enemy my brother's John Deere B is on the other side while it was getting its sheetmetal worked over. I really need to get it out and cleaned up and get some pictures of it with a digital camera.
