i dont see anywhere that says a sponsor cant make a post like this,
it says that we cant contact them about an order but nothing about them posting new products.....post away alan

I am no longer the arbiter of these policies, but from what I can, there is nothing wrong with Alan's post. There is a new ad program that IB (the new owners) rolled out recently that enables vendors to post in the forums, but I do not know the parameters. However, based on my very limited understanding of the program, this post would fall within the rules. IBsMMV.

I've been here for a little while now. 
Since I joined the site, the Lightning forum has been a place for supporting vendors to hock their wares. This is nothing new. It doesn't seem to be against the rules either.
If you open a thread you don't like, it's just as easy to close it out and move on to the next.
