Selling a vehicle...need advice
Alright guys as the title says i'm selling one of my other vehicles. I've put some ads out and I've got a potential buyer. he lives about 200 miles away so i told him that i would meet half way. He wants to negotiate price when we meet but I would prefer that we have it set in stone before we meet that way it wont be a wasted trip if he doesn't offer what i want. I also stated that i absolutely would not take a personal check and preferred cash but would accept a cashier's check. I'm only 22 so i don't want him to think he can take advantage of my because i'm not 35 years old. Is this how everyone would handle it? If not what would you do different. TIA
How desperate are you to sell? Reason being you can't expect the buyer to agree to a price without seeing the vehicle in person and test driving it.
And as for being taken advantage of ( in this situation ) in the end, it's your vehicle this buyer wants. So if are are unsure about ANYTHING in dealing with the potential buyer, say "no" and walk away.
I agree with ya on NOT taking a personal cheque.

That's very nice of you to offer to meet him half way but sorry, screw that. Make him come to you
. You will do a lot better negotiating on your turf if your not seasoned in negotiating these type of deals. WTF, even if you are seasoned, he should still come to you. IMO
Call him back and tell him you got other people coming to look at it and your not going to have time to meet him 1/2 way but he's still welcome to look at it.

I know your trying to be a nice guy and help sell this thing quicker, but driving 100 mi with no guarantee on the sale does show a bit of desperation. If your potential buyer is smart enough to notice this, and if he can drive he is, he will know your desperate to turn it and will low-ball you
I'll throw my $.02 in here!
Decide your bottom $ BEFORE you go to meet him and stick to that price. prepared to negotiate some from your asking price though. Another thing to keep in mind is that if he makes you an offer it's because he wants your truck so if he low ***** you then counter really high and come down from there. I went through this very thing 3 weeks ago when I sold my Toyota to a dude 2 states away. He drove 3 hours and I drove an hour so we could meet. We had agreed on a $5800 price providing the truck checked out for him. Well once he got here and drove it he decided he would offer me $4500 (which was actually the bottom $ I would have taken) but I told him that there was no way I could take $4500 and that I still had a few places I could advertise it for sale. He then countered with $4800 and again I told him he wasn't gonna get my truck for $4800 so I told him I would sell it for $5200 and that was my bottom $ (even though my bottom $ was really $4500). Well he said no and acted like he was gonna leave so I acted like I was going to leave too and finally he just said OK.
My point is...If he makes you an offer then you know he wants the truck so as long as your asking price is not unreasonable then most likely you;ll get close to what you are asking.
Also, make sure he knows you will ONLY accept payment in the methods you listed and if he brings any other type of payment then he will be driving home empty handed.

Thanks for the input guys. We've talked and I told him what I would take cash for it and he does want to buy it. I'll get about 500 bucks more than i would locally. We are planning on meeting up on sunday at a wal-mart parking lot about half way. Hope things go well. And i realize if he low ***** me i'll just keep my truck and come on back home.
